This just came out from Hal Leonard. It's got 40 full transcriptions that include both the heads and piano solos. It's a absolute treasure trove.

Aren't all of the transcriptions available from other sources already?

I've no idea if they are available, somewhere, but not in one, nice, spiral bound book, that seems to be quite accurate.

Hi

It looks very good. There are many preview pages (look inside) on Amazon, and this shows its both L & R hand parts for head and solos. There is also an Oscar Peterson volume in the same series.

I won't be buying either as I already have a small mountain of Jazz Piano transcriptions, especially of Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson, which mostly I can't play!

Cheers

They certainly captured his terrible posture on the cover ... laugh

I'm going to need to buy this, aren't I? *sigh*

My question is in a similar vein: Do we know who did the transcriptions, or have any idea of the general accuracy?

The Intro to the book does not identify the transcriber. I generally find Hal Leonard to be reliable. So far, I've looked closed at one transcription and it looked right on. However, so far as I can tell, the book does not come with a warranty.

Sorry, a little off-topic: is there a similar book for Thelonious Monk? I see some fake book collections, but more curious about transcriptions of whole solos, etc.

The recent Hal Leonard Omnibooks are made from transcription from other Hal Leonard books of transcriptions.
