Yamaha clp 525 or clp 575

I’m in the process of looking for a digital piano and had been looking at the Yamaha clp range. I have came across two good deals but wondering if the price hike is worth it.
First is the Yamaha clp 525 which is the entry level for the 500 series and I have been offered this second hand for £450.
Second is the Yamaha clp 575 which is the second top spec of the 500 series and can get this for £1350 refurbished from a piano shop.
So I’m wondering is the clp 575 worth an extra £1000 considering I’m just a beginner or are the sounds produced, keys material and weights all worth the extra, or is the clp 525 entry level worth getting at that price.

Thanks

John

If you were to ask a different question: How much is typically paid these days for a used 525 (or a used 575), then someone here might be able to answer.
(Location matters ... though I'm guessing UK based on the £.)

But ... since you wish instead to compare two different pianos ...

Worth is fluid. The worth of a thing is entirely up to the buyer and seller. I suggest you try both pianos and see which piano you like (based on touch and sound). Ask yourself whether the piano is worth the asking price. And remember that the asking price is a question, not a demand.

Also ... where did the notion of refurbishment enter in? If the seller says that a piano has been refurbished, it might only mean that the fingerprints have been wiped away. Don't read more into it.

And you might broader your search to include other pianos.

If you plan on getting far in your piano life then go for the 575. This is my first time seeing the word 'refurbishment' used with regards to a digital piano.

The 575 is much better. Although it doesn’t talk about the 525 very much, this may be useful:

Yeah not sure by what they mean refurbished, I was assuming second hand and they’ve tidied it up. Yes I’m in the uk and have saw some clp 525 on eBay and other sites selling for £800 so the cost of the one st £450 appears to be more than well priced for that spec.
Unsure if I just get that now and upgrade in a few years once I’m better.

I wouldn't spend over 1,000 on a used electronic with no warranty. That's 1000 down the drain if it stops working in a month. If the store provides a warranty then I would go to the 575

Yeah the store offered 1 year warranty on the 575 “refurbished” one.
The 525 is from a private seller.

It appears nobody thinks the 525 is worth £450 which I thought was cheap considering it was selling for £1000 only a couple of years ago, before the 625 came out.

Got some thinking to do now as had arranged to pick the 525 up today.

Thanks

Nothing stops you from picking up the CLP-525. People are just saying that the CLP-575 is (even) better.

It's of course a £450 gamble but sometimes (often?) used digital pianos actually do continue to work flawlessly for several years and don't explode a week after the purchase. 😉

What's stopping you from buying a new piano?

Second item: What exactly are the terms of this dealer warranty on the 575. I'm feeling suspicious. I only trust manufacturer's warranties.

I think 450 GBP is a decent price. But, as always, I'd offer less.

Still ... that piano is anywhere from three to six years old. I don't like old digital pianos. And there's no manufacturer's warranty.

So update is,
I decided to go into a local music shop who are an approved Yamaha dealer and he talked me through the new 600 series and the improvements from the 500 series. Also offered finance and a 5 year Yamaha warranty.
He did mention the the 600 series has been out since 2017 and Yamaha have updated the clp range every 3 years, so was expecting the new 700 series out around August this year.
After reading everyone’s comments I was getting more concerned with not having a proper warranty on a the pianos I’d looked at.
Just now wondering if I just hang fire until the 700 series is released as the 600 series are still holding their price just now.
Thanks everyone

The 700 series is going to be revealed at this year's Musikmesse in Frankfurt Germany. Unfortunately it has been postponed to the end of May (was beginning of April).

Johniemac - you wrote that you are a beginner. I recommend to get one of the DPs that are available now and start learning to play instead of waiting for the perfect instrument.

There probably won't be any major upgrades in the 700 series from the 600 series. Maybe they'll change to a touchscreen control, since they have already done it with the CVP range. You can check out other brands in the same price range to your budget too. The likes of Kawai and Roland are very popular.

3 years of development for just a touchscreen upgrade? I doubt that.

I'd say go with a new CLP-635 or something of similar quality if you can afford it. If you're a beginner I see no upside to buying a used digital. That would be just one more potential big frustration, and you need everything to go as smoothly as possible to stay motivated. And don't worry so much about what new bells and whistles will be on the next iteration. Just start learning.

May I ask where you saw this information (Musikmesse postponed until May), please?

Kind regards,

I've just checked. The Musikmesse doesn't have a new date yet. Its sister show, ProLight & Sound, will be held on the 26-29th of May.

Didn't say it was going to be the only upgrade. Just highlighting one possibility.

Thanks you.

I'm obviously aware that Musikmesse will be postponed, however I was not aware that a rescheduled May date had been announced.

Kind regards,
James
