I went to try the new CA79 this morning. I was lucky and they also had the NV5. I fell in love with its Millennium III action. I prefer it even to the lighter one in the NV10. It is just perfect for me.

On the other hand, I did not like at all the GFIII action of the CA79/99. It felt too light as if the keys themselves, rather than just their downweight, were made of a lighter material than those in the MIllenium III NV5, GFII and GF. On the other hand the GFII in the CA98 felt quite close to the NV5. Unfortunately, I cannot afford the NV5, but am seriously considering replacing my MP11 with the CA98. The difference is definitely not subtle and worth the extra cost for me. My main reason for wanting to change is that the MP11's action, though lovely, is lighter than most acoustic baby grands I play outside home and I find the adaption difficult (i.e. I do not have enough time to adapt)

Conversely, the action in the CA*9 series feels a step back compared to my MP11, even lighter and more different from an acoustic piano.

My order of preferences is NV5, CA*8, MP11/VPC1, CA*9. Without spending any extra money I'd be torn between the MP11 and VPC1 (different pros and cons). For me, though, the GFII action combines the advantages of the GF action (longer pivot) and the higher downweight of the RMIII in the VPC1. The mild squishiness at the bottom is something I can live with.

If only I could afford the NV5...

That is weird, nobody else mentioned GF-iii became lighter and nothing in the design suggests it is the case either?

When it comes to choosing DP, how a DP feels to the player through your own fingers is of the most importance. So, if you like CA*8 the most - go for it. In fact, there may be some good deals that can be negotiated as the dealers may be clearing out all the CA*8 old models as CA*9 models are arriving.

Of course you have to take this with a grain of salt... but:

That pretty much is what everyone else says. Maybe OP tested a faulty unit?
