How has assembling the digital pianos that arrive in a box worked for you all?

I wish I could get the finished product but it seems that is not possible. The video tutorials are helpful but one slip of the screwdriver and I've ruined my $5000 to $8000 investment. Or am I being ridiculous?

Thank you for your thoughts or advice.

Hello abcxyz,

Sometimes dealers will offer to built the instrument when delivering to your home, or pre-assemble the instrument at their store and deliver the piano as a finished piece.

However, if this is not possible, I don't believe you should be too concerned about assembling the instrument yourself. The assembly instructions are usually very clearly written, with illustrations for each step - much like a piece of flat-pack furniture from IKEA etc. So, provided you take your time and follow the explanations closely, there's not a great deal that can go wrong.

When it comes to lifting the main piano part onto the stand, ensure that you have at least two or more people available to perform this task. This part is rather heavy and requires two people to lift safely.

Best of luck!

Kind regards,
James

Thanks Kawai James. I had to hire assembly of my one piece of Ikea furniture. But that had far more parts.

One can safely ignore the instructions and disregard Safety instructions. They're usually too small to read anyway, as is the users manual. They also go on for ever.

The stand is assembled first. Then one side of the keyboard assemby can be elevated to stand level, resting against the side it'll be fastened to eventually, and protected with a towel against damage if you're a tad fussy.
Then you flex your manly muscles and heave up the other part, keeping your back straight (ish) and juggle into position, securing with those bolts they supply. Usually four or six.

It's an enjoyable little job. The hardest part is getting the stuff out the boxes.

But you didn't really need me telling y'all this did you?

Yes, let's always ignore safety instructions. (Or perhaps you forgot to pop in a smilie?)

Here, little Suzy. Go play with this Drano.

I took like 20mins to assemble my CA78, you kinda need help to lift the upper part since its heavy, but it has clear instructions. There is not much risk, you only have to put some bolts, i mean its designed to be asembled by yourself, that way they can save money on transport. Companies will usually offer to charge you to do it for you, not worth it, but you can, on my country it can be around $25.

I've had it worse with chinease cryptic instruction(SpaceRail oh god).

My piano history in about 15 months: Artesia PA88w -> Yamaha P45 -> Kawai CN 24 -> Kawai CN 37 -> Kawai CA 78
Done with: Clair de Lune - Debussy, Waltz Op. 64 no. 2 - Chopin. Looking for a new piece, kind of learning The Mandalorian theme, and practicing with Etude Op.10 no.1 - Chopin.

I assumed none of us here was psycho, or mentally deficient . . . . . Ah well! Assume nothing, my good wife told me. She worked with the Police.

Wouldn't necessarily recommend it for larger and heavier pianos but when I had a Casio Privia I did any assembly and disassembly with the piano lying on the floor on it's back. Then it was a matter of tilting it down to the floor or back up from it in one piece.

But even that could fail catastrophically. 😬

Now that I've assembled it, I can say it's super-easy... as long as you have 1 or 2 persons to help lifting the main unit onto the stand...

Maybe the MacGyver's Starter Kit was already sold out:

Yeah, I was wondering about that 20 minute piano assembly. I can barely shave and brush in 20 minutes.

It took me about 20 minutes to assemble my Casio PX-870, start to finish. Easiest thing I've ever put together, and no helper needed. Takes only a Phillips screwdriver to get the job done!
