This time I'm bound and determined to make sure I get my recordings done *early* (HA). So far, I've gotten 3 of the 4 movements of Op 2/3 done, and should be able to record the 3rd mvt by the end of the week. I had learned this sonata previously for another Beethoven Recital recently, so that was more just work in getting it back into my fingers.
I've recorded Pathetique 2nd mvt. There's still lots of work to do on the 1st and 3rd mvts of Pathetique. I dabbled in this sonata before, but this is the first time I've prepared it for a performance so of course it needs more time. Those LH tremolos can sometimes still present problems, but I think I've gotten most of the technical stuff out of the way, now it's just a matter of getting some of the sections up to tempo.
How is everyone else doing on their pieces?

My Bagatelle is in the bag, so to speak. Since I've committed to the second movement of Moonlight so late in the day I suspect I'll be up against the wire to get a decent recording done by the time it is due. I've had some good practise sessions with it in the last few days with obvious signs of improvement, so I am quietly hopeful.

I submitted the 2nd movement of my sonata to the ABF Feb recital. It still has some issues I need to work on, but at least I have that version to fall back on. I've parked it for now and will go back to it in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile the 1st movement is coming together nicely, but quite a bit more to do to deliver a consistent start-to-end performance.

The Beethoven 250th recital will open for submissions April 1st, so about a month away.
I am playing my sonata in a live recital March 1st, so I can "play" it all now. It seems impossible to play the whole thing without memory problems or stumbles of some kind. I just need to turn the recorder on and get some bits and bytes recorded. After the recital, I will stop practicing it!
Also, I will attempt to group the complete sonata submissions to the recital so the sonata movements are together and in the right order. If you are submitting a complete sonata, it would help to have all the movements uploaded in order, and one right after the other.

Is April 1st the deadline to submit a recording? The recital will open for submissions April 1st 2020 and go "live" April 15th 2020. So you have about 2 weeks, from April 1 to April 15, to get your recording(s) in. Rules: 1) Only pieces written by Beethoven. Solo piano, transcriptions, arrangements - are all welcome. 2) All skill levels are welcome (this is the ABF!) 3) Duplicate submissions are fine - we are all unique. 4) Multiple submissions are fine - if you want to do a complete sonata, submit each movement separately. We will use the recital submission software at recitals.pianoworld.com. All you need to participate is an mp3 recording of your performance (which is required). Videos are optional. Pledging to play something is just for fun - its not binding in any way... Sam

I was able to get an OK take of each movement of Op 2 No 3, so now I can focus on Pathetique 1 and 3, which I hope to record over Spring Break at the latest!

Here is your 30 day warning! The recital will open for submissions April 1st and go "live" April 15th.
We will be using the recital submission software at recitals.pianoworld.com. All that is required to participate is an mp3 recording, which you will upload during the submission process. Videos are optional.
My recording is done!

How is everyone else doing on their pieces? I made a recording of op.31/2 today (Monday). Not perfect, but presentable. Plus, my piano has just been tuned.
My grand piano is a Yamaha C2 SG. My other Yamaha is an XMAX 300.

The recital will open for submissions at about 6 AM April 1st US Eastern time. About 24 hours from the time of this post.
I know that many people (myself included!) are planning to submit complete sonatas. Unless the sonata is very short, you will have to break the sonata into into separate mp3 files for each movement. The file size limit is 20 megabytes. That can be 7-10 minutes or more, depending on how your mp3 is encoded. Higher bit rates increase the size and quality, but most of us will not notice the difference. So a lower bit rate will give you more time per file. It would be helpful if you uploaded the movements in order, one after the other. I have the ability to reorder things after submitted, but that part of the program has not been used in years. When the recital goes live on the 15th I will try to present complete sonatas with the movements together and in the right order.
This is going to be great!
Sam
