I wanted to know your thoughts on a Yamaha YUS5 TA2 vs GC1 TA2.
Would the transacoustic mode, either alone or superimposed with the acoustic piano, sound much better on the gc1?
I quite like the sound of the YUS5 (acoustic only) which I think is superior to the GC1. I like the feel of the YUS5 better too, probably due to the ivorite keys which the GC1 lacks. The GC1 has a marginally better action in my opinion. I think the ivory keys on the YUS5 make a big difference.
I would only get the grand piano if the transacoustic sounded superior. Unfortunately, in my area the only trans acoustic that I found is a U1.
I like the idea of the trans acoustic so I can play with headphones on at night, but also listen to my daughter practice with the volume down. On the weekends, we can play the acoustic mode at full volume during the day. We live in an apartment so there are only limited hours that we can play the acoustic at full volume.
I like the idea of a grand piano as a furniture piece, but not enough that I would pay extra money for an inferior sounding instrument.
Recently, I ordered a Yamaha DYUS1, which is a YUS1 acoustic piano with the Disklavier/Enspire option. I'm excited about being able to record and playback with full movement of the keys and pedals, record videos of myself which are synched to acoustic playback, play silently on headphones, play through monitor speakers, and play music back through my stereo while the piano plays along. I think this piano is going to be a blast and that the tech features will help me with my practice sessions.
I'm sure the YUS5 is a great piano. I thought it might have too large a voice for our relatively small apartment. My neighbors are cool about my practicing during the day. My building has quiet hours between 10pm and 8am, but I never play past 8pm or earlier than 9:30am.
