I've been playing the piano since Jan '18.
More recently, I passed Grade 6 with distinction and plan to take Grade 7 in late 2021.

I am documenting my progress, recitals and experiences of learning how to play the piano as an adult on my YouTube channel.

Just like last year, I don't think I'll get anywhere near 40 pieces this year either, but I'll give it a shot. Maybe I can at least get 20 or so.

I've already worked on several pieces, but here is the first I have a recording of:

1 Indian Serenade <Recording> (by Martha Mier)

An easy piece that I just needed a few days for to learn and record, so it was perfect for this challenge.

Joubert, that was beautiful. Can I ask where you got the music? I went online and it said it was out of print.
Thanks, Judy

Thanks! I found it on the internet somewhere, I don't remember where. It was part of the Best of Martha Mier Book 3.

1. L'Autunno (Vivaldi)
2. Let it Go (Disney's Frozen) (dropbox mp3)
3. Mad World (Roland Orzbal)
4. German Dance in C Major WoO 8 (Beethoven)
5. A Song of Erin (Dunhil)
6. No 9 Nana del Mercedes (Javiere Navarette) (dropbox mp3)

Two more for the list. My 7th (and 2nd Beethoven) piece is proving to be as tricky as the first and getting at least a 2nd week to try to bring it up to a reasonable standard.

I had a bit of time yesterday to make a recording of a couple of pieces (still experimenting with acoustic mic placement). Unfortunately we're experiencing a bit of a storm in the UK at the moment, you might pickup the wind and hail in the quieter parts smile

Neither piece is to the standard I'd normally want it prior to attempting a recording, but for the 40 pieces challenge I'm not looking for quite as much polish from each piece, so the slight mistakes remain. I expect I'll return to both pieces in the future and polish them properly though.

1 Indian Serenade <Recording> (by Martha Mier)
2 The Hobbit - Theme from the movie <Recording> (by Howard Shore)

My #2 is my current ABF recital entry. Actually, I realized that *this* was my first recording of the year, because I recorded it before my #1.
It's not a new piece for me. I already recorded it for the recital four years ago, but to re-learn it for this new recording, I had to put in enough work so that I am counting it again for this year's challenge.

One more for my list. I am trying to focus on pieces between grades 6-8 for the rest of my pieces, since they seem to be about the right amount of challenge. I may not get 40, but I think I will get the most out of this range of pieces.

My List now is:

1. Passepied in D Major Dieupart - RCM 5
2. Sonatina in F Major Diabelli - RCM 4
3. Fantasy Bossa Noton - RCM 7
4. Polonaise in G Minor - Chopin - RCM 7
5. Sarabande in D Major - Handel - RCM 6
6. Serenade sur l'eau - Ibert- RCM 7

This year was supposed to be about quantity.
Nevertheless I am having a lot of trouble to add a single song to the list.
I hope to improve along the year.

1. Little Prelude BMV 925 - Bach
2. Ronda from Divertimento in D Major K. 334 - Mozart

Well done, SwissMS!

@Peter Hontaru Good choice! I learnt this piece last year and enjoyed it very much.

@Sol Finker I loved both pieces. I'm sure, it will be a good piano year for you! You may find this article by Graham Fitch useful.

Very good article. It reinforces the idea of number without dropping the "polishing and refining".

Thank you for the encouragement.
