Hello piano world, I just want to say and start off with that I respect the piano world because it’s the real music amongst whatever garbage we have these modern days.

i my self, know nothing of this world and i’m trying to help my girlfriend , sell this piano , that her late late husband bought for the house (he died of cancer may he rest in peace)

all i know is that it’s a

Baldwin Grand Piano , 1904 grand prix

You probably should have it inspected by a piano technician. If it wasn't previously rebuilt chances are it's worth very little because most pianos that age are in very bad condition. If it has an elaborately carved case or has been rebuilt it could be worth considerably more.

If you can post some pictures of the outside and inside, some PW members far more knowledgeable than me might be able to save you the expense of an inspection which might cost around $100-$175.

"1904 grand prix" is probably a prize that Baldwin won somewhere in 1904. It's not the model.

Slide the music desk forward and look for a serial number stamped onto the metal plate. From that you can determine the age, and there may also be a letter nearby that will tell you the model. There may also be some letters embossed into the frame near the tail, which can also help determine the model if it's not stamped near the serial number.

And still I dream she'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather

That would be 1979.

Well a 1979 Baldwin should have *some* value, right? This is a job for a piano technician in person really, because the range could be anything from a few hundred dollars if the piano isn't in great shape, to a few thousand if it's in excellent condition. There will be things that can be seen in photographs here, but there will be things that can't be seen in photographs like the condition of the pin block.

Good luck on selling your piano and I'm sorry for your loss.

If those are photos, they are not set to be viewable by the public.

Looks kind of rough on the inside. Where has it been stored?

It’s a 6’3” model L.
Looks like it could be water damaged. Lots of rust on the strings and pins, through the screen on my phone I see what looks like liquid stains on the soundboard.
This may be a “make me an offer” sort of situation.

Also it’s white, and white pianos generally don’t sell well. So probably this piano would need to be refinished in addition to whatever other work it may need...

Agreed. I'm also trying to figure out how the plate got all chewed up.

Who would buy a white piano in seemingly poor condition with the idea of refinishing it when the cost of refinishing would be more than the value of the piano? And it's certainly not worth it for the owners to refinish it for any reason.

I'm not saying anyone would. I'm just pointing out that the color/finish of the piano is an additional drawback, one that may (or rather, is likely to) further diminish the potential value of the piano.

I doubt that Baldwin would have put a black inner rim on a white piano, so it is likely that the finish was originally black, and the white is aftermarket. Depending on how well that was done, that could significantly reduce the value of the piano, more than a piano that was originally white.

Someone here may prove me wrong, but it is doubtful that the piano would have come out of the Baldwin factory with a blue finish. So the piano has probably been refinished twice.
