It's Walking in the Air by Howard Blake:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQt6NmOKzYw

Originally a song, also transcribed by the composer for piano solo as part of his Lifecycle suite.

"I don't play accurately - anyone can play accurately - but I play with wonderful expression. As far as the piano is concerned, sentiment is my forte. I keep science for Life."

Here's the original piano version (from Lifecycle), played by Vladimir Ashkenazy, no less:

It was a song for a very famous cartoon film about a snowman. I remember the seeing it when I was younger. I think it may be an English phenomenon.

Sorry if it too off-topic but I wanted to provide a more rounded opinion of ice themed related british TV children series. Pingu was my favourite TV series when I was younger. No idea what it was about then and still do not know now.

Do we know for sure that this is Ashkenazy playing, or just because the video says it is?

Oh wow, I want that arrangement! It's much nicer than the one I have. Phooey, a quick search online doesn't turn up the original arrangement and the score in the video doesn't show the top where the arranger's name might be...

Anyone have any suggestions? Besides screen grabbing every frame... whome

The composer made the transcription himself, and it's one of the short pieces in his piano suite:

Thanks for this info! I wonder if I can find it somewhere used, or at a library or something.

Do you think the score we see in the video is the same one as in this book?

This piece (Walking in the Air) appears in a lot of Christmas collections, and there are a few arrangements available on MusicNotes.com, and George Winston has a version in his one collection of piano scores. But most versions are simplified and ETA the George Winston score does not include a transcription of what he does in the middle of the piece in his recording. But looking at the score in this video, and listening to it, I can tell this is a much better version!

Also ETA: it looks like I can get a copy of this book through my university library, so we'll see!

Yes, it is - No.21 of Lifecycle.

Someone asked about this piece in ABF before, and I think he got the original copy (i.e. the Lifecycle book) direct from the composer's website:

Bennevis, thanks for that link! I actually posted early on in that thread, but I don't think I followed after that.

And let me just say, you should get the "piano saint" award or something for your patience in dealing with the OP of that thread!! laugh

Well, I'll let you know if/when I get a copy of the score. Thank you again!! smile

For 10 years nobody on youtube has been able to understand what piece she plays. She always plays it on every digital piano she tries. Can it be a composition she created?

This piece has been played by another pianist advertising the same keyboard brand and asked about a few times on this forum. For example here:

I think the pianist is always the same. She is from a polish company that advertises digital pianos on youtube. They never answered to the question of many youtube users who wanted to know what piece it was. That's strange...

ebonykawai, did you ever get a copy of the original score for Walking on the Air? PM me if you are having trouble finding it.
