Simple question. What headphones do you use with your digital piano?

Suplerlux hd681 EVO. Cheap and sound brilliant, well at least in my opinion.

Sony MDR MA800. Big, open-backed, lightweight headphones.

Sennheiser HD407 🎧

I've also tried Koss Porta Pro which is very close to the Sennheiser and could be usable but nothing extraordinary. And the cable is a bit short for digital piano use.

I've also tried AKG K-240 which IMHO weren't any better for my use case (Kawai ES-100). They are very open both ways (leak sound) and probably a great product for some very specific use case (neutral monitoring?). I returned them.

I've also tried JBL Tune 600 BT NC (in wired mode) and the sound is a bit "boxy" in the mid range (of the piano keyboard). Wouldn't use those with my DP.

I also have Sennheiser HD201 plugged into my PC and I've tried them with both an old Casio Privia and the ES-100. They work pretty well on the ES-100 for some reason although they are closed unlike all the others I listed. And I'm perfectly happy with using them with Pianoteq in binaural mode.

But none of this is very useful to anyone as the ES-100 has such a basic piano sound engine that it doesn't take much for it to "shine" as much as it's ever going to "shine". I guess. 🤔

Beyerdynamic DT-250. Occasionally I use the DT-770 pro but I prefer the 250’s with piano.

Sennheiser HD 650 and HD 800. Indestructible, and top notch sound.

+1. The shop gave me a Beyerdynamic, selling for $12 on Amazon and sound the same as the HD 599, which cost a lot more money.

AKG Q701 with Furutech Alpha cable. Occasionally the Senn HD650 also. I tried both the 598 and the 599 but they give too much bass for my ears.

To the OP:

. . . Do you have a budget?

I have AKG K240 Studio, Sennheiser HD280, and Shure SE215 "in-ear monitors". I use whichever is closest (except that away from the house, the SE215's are always in my pocket).

+1 The HD800 is substantially more extended on top. Both need a headphone amp.

I use headphone DAC/amplifier with PC, but not with P-515, it is loud enough for me.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm
Closed.
I tried a 990, sound far different (open). Perhaps too much bass.

80 Ohm is too small, 250 is ok.

I perhaps will buy a DT 1990 (open)

Not sure because closed protect me from the outside noises.

Sennheiser HD 599.

They are comfortable enough for me that I can almost forget I'm wearing them.

AKG K271 Mk.II was given free with my DP purchase, and it's pretty good (the best pair I owned then).

A year later I bought Grado SR 325is which proved to be the best-sounding 'phones I ever had (past, present or future). Unfortunately, it becomes uncomfortable due to clamping on my ears after a while, so I can only use it for short periods.

Which is why I use Sennheiser HD600 most of the time with my DP now. Its sound is clearer than the AKG, but not quite up to the Grado's astonishing realism - but it's much more comfortable for prolonged use.
