On with my search, but still a fan of C7’s!!!

Yea, that is kind of what happened to me... I played an older, pre-owned C7 at a large piano store in Atlanta, and it impressed me more than any other piano I had ever played, new or used. After that, I set my sights on a C7 that I could afford, and was fortunate enough to find one.

As for the soundboard crown, I think that is a matter of debate amongst many of the pro techs and rebuilders here. Some say it matters and some say it don't. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know the difference. I've never checked the crown on my C7, mainly because it is already bought and paid for, and sounds fantastic to me in all the registers. Great sustain where it matters most for me.

My soundboard does have a couple of small compression ridges, but I have read that is fairly common on pianos with large soundboards, and doesn't present a problem. Again, nothing that concerns me.

Good luck, Jon! smile

Oh, new pins when refurbished, but original pin block. So the new pins are “2 sizes up” with 60-100 pounds tourge (if that makes sense) 😁

Hmmm. Did you play it? If you like the sound you might not be too worried about the crown question. But also wait a few months and then make an offer somewhat below his asking price?

Is refurbished always better, what if it wasn't done in a very good way?

Of course, it's not always better. It depends on what was done and how well it was done.

It did have great sustain, and the tech did say it wasn’t a big deal, he wasn’t surprised, and it actually did have a minimal crown, maybe 1mm.

Either way, at 22k didn’t feel it a “deal”, so yea let’s see in couple months... Meanwhile there are plenty of fish in the sea😁

The C7 sounded great, Jon! However, the tuning is not that good, which distracts negatively from your recording. But you could still get an idea of the richness of the bass and color and tone of the rest of the piano.

You might give it some time, and go back and talk to the dealer and make an offer. Worst he can say is no. Well, he could say it in a rude and nasty way, but maybe not. smile

Good luck!

Rick

I think I saw the same piano yesterday.

I thought it was generally in good condition, but the hammers needed filing, and the actions regulated. That's probably 2-3 days of work by a good technician. I'm not jumping onto it.
