My composition teacher asked me for homework to compose a free piece for violin and piano (by saying free I mean composing something with a non-classical form). Since it is my first time I write something for violin (I´m a pianist so I do not have problem writing for it), I need to now about notation (symbols and so on). So I was wondering if there´s an encyclopedia that covers notation symbols for instruments used in classical music or even popular (such as guitar, bass, drums, etc.).

I do not understand your question. What kind of symbols are you referring to? You just have to apply the violin clef (it got its name from that instrument) and bear in mind that the lowest note is the G3. Some typical sheet music of a composition for violin and piano looks like this

Where is he problem?
