Or your cleaner has been using metal polish to earn a tip smile

I employ no cleaner. smile The piano came like that, but I suppose someone else’s cleaner could have been using metal polish and damaging the finish.

Sam did a good bit of the restoration himself (he is also a competent piano tech, but doesn't mention it much here on PW).

I might ad that Sam's Bechstein is also for sale, since he recently purchased a later model Yamaha C3.The price of the one in the CL ad seems very reasonable. I think Sam is asking around $10K for his. But I'm sure his price is negotiable.

Lady Bird, you've been hanging around me too much (on the PW forum anyway:-) and may be catching the dreaded PAS condition (Piano Acquisition Syndrome) smile

If you have the time, and it isn't too far away, you could always go look at it and play, just for fun. You could tell the sellers you'll think about buying it and let them know if you're interested further (or something like that:-)... smile

Rick,
Is this Sam's piano? Regardless, it seems like a bargain.

Wow, it certainly does look like a great deal. If only I had the space, sigh.

Yes, it absolutely is, Rich. I knew he had it advertised on the local CL, but did not know he had an ad on PianoMart. He's actually come way down on the price in that ad, from where he started. But he told me he'd keep coming down until it sold (that is usually how it works). No doubt he has way more than that in the piano. But that is just how it goes sometimes.

If I had the room, I'd buy it from him... but there are limits to the PAS syndrome (like not having the room for more than 7 acoustic pianos at any one given time). smile

Yes that is my piano. As you can see, I have too many pianos now, with the Bechstein back to back with a Yamaha C3. I need to sell the Bechstein, so price reduced - come out and play it! I have a 7 foot harpsichord that is now on its side in the garage - it needs to go in the space where the Bechstein is.

Thanks John,
That piano certainly is wonderful !
By the I replied to that CL listing and asked for to see it over the
weekend. It is not possible to go sooner. There has been no reply .
Perhaps sold ?
The appearance of the name on the fallboard did concern me as
did the romantic story about the piano. Yet sometimes things are
just true even though unusual.

Yes, it's absolutely beautiful. If only I could afford an old Bechstein concert grand rebuilt by this man. Dreams make life worth living. smile
