First time here, I am resuming lessons after 12 years of not being involved with music. My daughter is also taking lessons and we were shopping for a digital piano.

My local Kawai dealer told me he will sell me his last CA-78 for $2700 tax included and offering 0% financing for 24 months. Is the difference in price/features worth waiting for the 79s to arrive? My gut tells me this is an amazing deal, I just wanted to check and see if this was typical for a discontinued model. Also, do you think I can do better for the money?

Yes, dealers have to get rid of the old model, so deals are common. That seems like a good deal, comparable with blow-out prices on the CA78 in Belgium. I don't see how you could do better for $2700.

Whether it is worth waiting for a ca79 I can't tell you. I ordered a CA79, but as I haven't played one it remains a gamble of sorts.

For that price? No, probably not.

Prices here are $4000 to $4700 (KawaiUS)

Twelve years? With blindfold, I doubt you could tell a difference with the CA79. Sound. Feel. Anything. Once the selections using the Menu are finished.

$2700 including tax is a very good price for a CA 78 Rosewood, even better price for the CA78 Polished Ebony. This is for the floor model, I assumed? Ask them to throw in a nice bench and a pair of headphones and you're in great shape!!! smile

I ended up getting it. It was rosewood, not a floor model, included a bench and delivery instead of headphones since I already have plenty to choose from at home.

You think that's a good price? That's an outrageously good price!

Past sales of the CA78 (excluding the more expensive PE finish) averaged $3415, with standard deviation of $515.

Running some stats ... If selling prices are normally distributed we'd expect that 84% of sales will be at or above $2900. Yes, $2700 is a REALLY good price.

Congrats indeed, that's a great price!

Enjoy your new piano!

Kind regards,
