I purchased my piano in southern NJ. I am fairly close to Philadelphia and about an hour from Newark DE. I am probably going to start looking fora different dp, as I am not comfortable on mine. I can’t find any piano dealers that sell more than one brand of digital piano, aside from Guitar Center, which has very few models in the store.
Is anybody from this area? Where did you buy your dp?

I live in Philly and just went through this earlier last year.

In short...... the 'net killed the stores. It sucks. Guitar Center and Sam Ash in King of Prussia is as good as you are going to get around here and their selections are limited. I recommend going to NYC. Just do it. I forget who had the biggest selection/better set ups ... Sam Ash or Guitar Center... but just go to both. Again I forget which... but I got great quality time with a struggling producer who gave me extended listening time with monitors... he had some great music selections on his phone (yes, our brave new world sucks).... and good insight into the differing products. In philly, I would get these dopey teen-somehting-or-others..... awful.

Get there early when they open so you get some quality time and bring some quality headphones.

If there is a model you are interested, call first of course, but also send emails to the various company reps from their websites. They may give you a more local place to go... The Nord rep said the only place NYC-to-Wash that would have a Piano 4 set up is someplace near Falls Church VA..... NOT NYC.... but he said to call first. Awful.....

If you are interested in the bigger "home piano" or whatever they are called now, some lines are sold through other channels like Jacobs Music in Philly.... but call first and don't give them your number or email... darn the spam!!!

Peace
Bruce in Philly

The Sam Ash and B&H Camera are next to each other in NYC. Sam Ash had a huge keyboard department just a few years ago but you might call ahead as the NYC music scene disappears, inventory shrinks.

One more tip... again I can't remember if Sam Ash or Guitar Center. The store manager in KOP tried to sell me a Roland... they are not allowed to discount so they are willing to throw in free stuff like seats, pedals, cables and more. Gotta ask.

I went to a GC last week and couldn't find a single keyboard I wanted to play or buy.
Which store to visit may depend largely on the level of quality you wish to find. You probably won't find the nicer digitals and hybrids in stores that do a lot of "online" business.

The Sam Ash and Guitar Center stores have differing inventories based on the local population.... bigger cities have bigger and more varied inventories. Just go to NYC.

The Jacob’s in Cherry Hill, NJ sold me the Roland that I can’t stand. The other one they recommended was also a Roland. The Sam Ash and Guitar Center in Cherry Hill had a VERY limited selection, so I guess I will have to go out of state. There are some things that you really need to try out and buy in person, which brings me to my next question:
What does a beginner, with 4 months of learning and 1.5 teachers already dismissed, play, to try out a piano? It’s kind of embarrassing, since I’m an adult beginner.

Scales, broken chords and arpeggios, at dynamic different levels. Try legato and staccato. If you know any piece(s) round off with that. Listen and feel.
