Has anyone tried this stool:

Dewalt Stool

[Linked Image]

Does it squeak and how comfortable it is in general?

I've not tried that stool, but it doesn't go down very low. If you're tall it should be OK, but my bench is set at 20.5" and this stool only goes down to 22.5". I assume you know you can buy a really nice adjustable piano bench for less money.

It's too high for me too, which is a shame. I love the industrial look of it.

Do the wheels come off (that would certainly cut down some height)? For those who use swivel/roller chairs, does the extra movement ever get in the way while playing? In reality I would think not (it's probably one of those things you get used to quite quickly) but I've always had a dedicated bench.

Putting that ugly thing in my living room is a sure way to be threatened with divorce. How can you play on something that rolls around with every move you make?

There are stools here:

I think I always have my left foot a little bit under the front of the seat. And the right foot too if it's not on the sustain pedal.

So the seat base might get in the way.

There are of course "drum thrones" that are somewhat similar and might go lower. And it was maybe K&M that had a "piano throne". Not with that name but somewhat similar to the drum thrones.

Those stools are sooooo middle eastern :))))

You unscrew those casters and put on something that goes nice and wouldn't scratch the flooring and it won't move any more!

I'm looking for something that has a rugged industrial look. I like the extreme contrast it has. Modern, sleek and or rugged-industrial look.

I'm open to your suggestions. But please no jihadi style furniture.

I see those stools as something out of Western saloons, and never thought about the Middle East.

What about a chair? Glenn Gould played on a chair, a horrible squeaky one, but no matter. He was from Canada and you're from Canada, so there is that. smile

I'm wondering if I spring for a duet bench would I be able to find someone to play duets with me? Like, if you build it, they will come.

You can get a good drum throne for that price. Gibraltar is one name to look for, available at Tom Lee or L&M. Thicker padding than the DeWalt stool.

I use a drum throne motorcycle seat on an office-chair rolling base.

Thanks for your suggestions. It still reminds me of the ME, even if it is coming from a saloon...

A stool is a more versatile piece of furniture for playing piano. I need to use my laptop, and keyboard and other stuff so bench/chair is very limiting.

I want that industrial look. I can paint it yellow, remove the casters but it is not exactly what I want. Not nice enough.

Only comes in black. 😉

And I don't like anything too ornamented either. Luckily there are no Chippendale digital pianos. 🙄

I'd love to try these out but I guess it is impossible to find them in Canada:

ErgoKid (moll Germany)

Very expensive though.

I also looked into HermanMiller. Great quality but contemporary modern.

I'm not even married but I'd still not put that thing in my lounge room! Also, I prefer a proper bench seat, so I can move from side to side a bit. (is the intention to actually exploit the casters, though? Interesting idea if so)

Greg.

Now, _that's_ classy! Thanks!

EDIT -- it's also in the Roc'n'Soc price range . . .

A stool can swivel which is not possible with bench. For a live performance, or in the studio, a bench is not necessary unless you're playing specific classical music.

That K&M worth under $100. The problem with stools with these companies is that they are not solid, and usually, they look good but the quality is crap. Look at this ikea standing stool:

Ikea TROLLBERGET

[Linked Image]

The top is actually leather (unlike majority of IKEA's products). It has a decent warranty and replacement policy, and it is super easy to do so.

Even if I buy a Steinway & Sons, I wouldn't use that ordinary-ass bench.

I want to build a setup with a character. Something that has a theme and reflects my passions: something cool.
