I just purchased the Garritan CFX Full and running it on my Macbook Pro. But the volume come from my mac is just TOO LOW that it's almost unplayable. Please help!

Here is my setting:
Kawai CA15 -> Macbook Pro -> Garritan CFX -> Sennheiser HD598se
(The Garritan CFX is on default settings.)

Macbook Pro:
Early 2015 13-inch, 2.7 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3.

By the way, I can run Pianoteq stage perfectly fine like this(Kawai CA15 -> Macbook Pro -> Pianoteq stage -> Sennheiser HD598se).
So what happened?! tired

I just have the lite version on my 2012 MBP. I have the system output volume set one notch down from maximum. If the slider in Garritan was linear between where it say 5 and 0 mine would be about 1.5. Smaller numbers are louder. I have dynamic range at 75%, higher values of dynamic range result in typically quieter output. I have everything configured so both Garritan and Synthogy stand alone players produce roughly similar volume levels so switching VSTs doesn't involve playing with settings.

It's not really working. I know volume would be higher after you turn up all 3 mic sliders (close/ambient/master). But then it turned out to be a distorted sound. I want crystal clear and beautiful sound I've heard on YouTube... tired

The limit button at the top right corner above the master slider is a bit wonky IMHO. Disable that (should move from bright to dark colour).

The close, ambient, master sliders can be lifted to about 5, but not much more as sound gets distorted.

Go to the advanced tab. Make sure your velocity curve is default. Double check dynamic range as noted by KevinM. Try this at 50 until you get volume sorted and adjust later..

In tools dropdown, select Preferences. Maybe changing audio device API, Audio Device would help. I think your sample rate should be 44.100Hz. Start with a buffer size of say 128 (you can lower that once you get the volume issue sorted). After you make a change you might need to quit Garritan and relaunch.

Check that your OSX is running 44.100Hz also (I can't remember where that is in OSX).

Also make sure your Kawai factory touch curve settings are not light or heavy but rather normal.

Below are some tips from the developer Jeff H at Garritan:

Thank you so much.

I've fallowed your steps, nothing happened. (By the way I don't know what this means "Check that your OSX is running 44.100Hz".)
--However, after reading Jeff H's post2816299, I think I might have found the possible reason. As he wrote "If you have your headphones plugged directly into your computer's headphone port, then that's not an option". Maybe I should try to use an amp. That might work.

But what confused me is that the Pianoteq works just fine in my setting, while the Garritan doesn't... confused

I have nearly the same setup as you (MBP15, HD598), and the same issue with volume, it is quite low. I have the MacBook volume turned up to high, and I. Garritan I have turned off Limit, set the master and close mic volumes up near max, and ambient mic volume near the middle (classic perspective).

If you need even more volume, you can either: turn on EQ and dial up the low/med/hi manually, or get a headphone amp which will boost the gain for you.

For me, running everything near max is good enough for solo play, but it's a shame everything had to be turned up so high to get there.

The Saturation knob also seems to turn the volume up more.

Yeah, Garritan is notoriously quiet. It#s a mess trying to get it work on my speakers, as I employ rather rigorous room correction EQ that lowers the output quite a bit.

You need a beefy amp.

Playing with DT-880, I have to push the soundcard volume to 100%, Clear manages with less due to lower impedance.

Pianoteq is considerably louder, gut feeling says an easy +6 to +10dB.

The backbone of modern industrial society is, and for the foreseeable future will be, the use of electrical Power.
