With the advent of the CA*9 series, I have the opportunity to buy either of the above two DPs at basically the same below £2k price. The aim is to replace my MP11 so as to tidy up my limited space. I am using the latter with Pianoteq and Focal Alpha 65 monitors. While I love its action (in fact I think it's a toss up between that and the GFII) and its sound through Pianoteq/Chord Mojo/Sennheiser HD800, I find the monitors sound pretty congested/distorted in the 60-300hz range and they already take more space than I would like. Hence, my desire to go for an all-in-one solution. I care foremost about the action, second about the quality of the sound system, last about the quality of the samples given that I can use a VST.

On the basis of that, do you think I am better of with the CA97 or 78? For space reason, the piano cannot be more than 15 cm from the wall. The CA79 costs at least 600£ more and I am reluctant to spend the extra money for the relatively minor changes in the action.

I thank you very much in advance.

Best,
Giulio

Forgot to say. Both pianos are ex demo. Would the fully Kawai warranty apply?

For the second question: You will have to ask the shop owner.
Since you'd be really happy with both those models regardless, and them being so similar, I'd go for the cheaper option.

I think your choice should mainly depend on whether you normally play with headphones or through speakers. I have a Kawai CA67. Through headphones its great. Through speakers not so good. But since I play 95% of the time with headphones I am perfectly happy.

The CA97 is the more advanced version of my CA67 with the speaker improvements (ie using the soundboard). The CA78 is more the next release of my CA67. Now I am sure its better than my CA67 - and to be honest with you I have only experienced the Pianist Mode when playing a Novus 10 where it sounded really good, but whether you experience that improved sound through the CA78 speaker system I can't say (so you should try it yourself to see).

I would add - I don't use a VST - I don't like the extra hassle, and to me the inbuilt samples are fine, and trying to chase a better sound is like trying to find the end of a rainbow - you never can get there.

Thanks. I care about the sound through speakers. Through headphones, I am really happy with the sound I get from the MP11 + PTQ. And I love the GF action of the MP11. It does not have the soft bottoming of the GFII action, though I must say I slightly prefer the weighting of the GFII. Both actions are very good, though slightly different.

I must say that the built in samples of the MP11 are ok but not great, though.

I have the CA78 and absolutely love it. The sound is great both through the speakers and with headphones. The action is also the best I have tried (except Novus) in a digital piano. Happy shopping!

Thanks! I have indeed tried the CA78 and love both the sound and the action. I've never tried the CA97, though, hence my question.
