Really simple question. Why is there no continuo with figured bass in this concerto?

Should we just take the manuscript at face value or is there something implicitly different about the way Bach conspicuously just wrote out the solo part, which includes active participation in the ritornello sections? Not asking for a friend.

Not sure I understand your question. There is a bass continuo in the score. It is unfigured as it is supposed to be played by a string instrument.

I would imagine that in this case it would be pointless or counterproductive to use a harpsichord as a continuo instrument for a *harpsichord* concerto. Continuo is provided by the cello and double bass, with the harpsichord soloist probably being free to reinforce things on occasion. Baroque performance apparently left a lot more up to the performers than later practice.
