Does anyone know which piano Larry Knetchel played BOTW on.

Also, was there a good quality digital piano with a transpose function available in 1969?

I'm pretty certain that pianists like Larry Knechtel didn't need any transpose function... Also, digital pianos in 1969? Electric yes, but I'd think digital not yet, but I'm not an expert there.

Hi

I was pretty certain digital Pianos didn't exist in 1969 and a quick look on the net confirms this. The first decent digital Pianos were made in the mid to late 1980s. I owned one of them an early Yamaha CVP model.

Electric Pianos like the Fender Rhodes were invented in the 1960s.

A quick look doesn't confirm which Piano was used on BOTW. It could possibly have been the famous Grand Piano at RCA Studio B in Nashville, but that's more of a guess than anything.

Cheers

The instrumental portion of Bridge Over Troubled Water (not waters) was recorded in Los Angeles by Knechtel and members of the Wrecking Crew. So the piano was probably the one that resided in that famous studio (Steinway as I recall). The vocals were recorded in New York.

Many thanks all replies. I just wondered as I have been working on playing Knetchel's version in C transposed to E♭ (digitally on my Roland piano) It works quite well and for me, much easier than E♭ I don't read music very well though have heard and seen others play the sheet music which although approximately what Knetchel plays, it is not really close enough. He was a magnificent player and I'm enjoying trying to work it out. I would say I am about 80% there.
