I went to a music store and tried a

NU1X and also a U1 silent SC2 that was made in indonesia that was second hand from being a rental.

NU1X was $6800(AUD) and the U1 was $7800(AUD) ($4670 USD vs $5361 USD)

When i said this to the sales person, i liked the NU1X, it sounded good and it felt exactly like an upright Yamaha action.

He said why not get the U1 Silent SC2 instead? He was baffled at why i would consider the nu1x over the U1 silent SC2 if it was similar price. He said the U1 has a true U1 build quality, while the NU1X he thinks has a lower grade build quality compared to U1. I'm not sure if hes right or not...

The U1 silent SC2 has both the bossendorfer and CFX in binaural. So, it kinda has the same piano sounds, and a true upright action anyway.

Anybody can shed some light on this?

How would a salesman know anything (about the build quality of these pianos)?

I leave it to you to remove, if you wish, the parenthesized portion of that sentence. Perhaps it was unnecessary.

Tough call - I'd lean toward the U1 silent if I didn't have room constraints (and I just bought a NU1X!)
BTW Logans (Sydney) are still advertising NU1X for $5,995!

Edit: Oh a thought: The U1 Silent may have the older generation samples, without the binaural (samples from the NU1 generation). And I doubt the U1 Silent has had the same attention to detail that the NU1X has clearly had, in terms of sound reproduction - but I may be wrong.

Er...perhaps because he sees these (and other) pianos every day? wink

The U1 is produced in Indonesia, while the NU1X is produced in China. Of course, this does not necessarily indicate that the U1 has superior build quality.

Yamaha also produces upright pianos in China, so I would assume the NU1X uses a similar - if not the same - keyboard action as these instruments.

Kind regards,
James

Most aspects of build quality aren't visible to the eye.

Quality comes from what the factory does and how it performs. All of that is outside our view.

The U1 will require regular tuning and may need management of the environment or more careful choice of location.

I haven't seen any postings about problems with the NU1X or it's predecessor the NU1 regarding build quality. The only quality issue was the loud note issue that has been resolved. One thing I liked about the NU1X was that it came fully assembled.
