When I did my BMus about twenty-five years ago we used this as an introduction to functional tonality and writing in JSB's chorale style:

https://www.amazon.com/Harmony-Lead...ce+leading&qid=1578352850&sr=8-7

It was very clear and logical, a work that I learned a great deal from. There are more recent editions you might like to check out.

Speaking of voice leading, you might also want to learn some species counterpoint along the lines of this work:

https://www.amazon.com/Study-Counte...unterpoint&qid=1578353161&sr=8-1

Have never used this as a textbook, but it deals with the concepts I learned. Maybe someone else can chime in.

A book on keyboard harmony can also be very useful, as it contains practical exercises you play on the piano. For example:

https://www.amazon.com/New-Approach-Keyboard-Harmony/dp/0393950018

I would say I learned most of what I know about harmony by analyzing Bach chorales and preludes. Basically going through the whole piece and asking "why exactly did he put this note right here?" over and over again.
