Mackerz, it is indeed all four for 15.99. I have had several similar sets at around that price, and had no problems at all with them.

By contrast, I have had sets of twin-wheel swivel castors with rubber wheels from one of the two UK piano trade supply houses, much more expensive, and have had to replace the wheels on them after a couple of years as the rubber came apart.

They have a load rating of 70Kg (154lbs) each, so four of them would take a load of 600lbs. Prices are not shown online, but they will be less than £10 per castor.

Not quite enough load rating for a large Steinway upright.

Indeed perhaps not. The large old Steinway uprights are exceptionally heavy, so the Tente ones with those particular wheels might not be up to the job. . The castors in the ebay link say they take 100Kg each (220lbs) so four of them should take 880lbs combined. High quality twin-wheel brass swivel piano castors would be optimal in terms of load bearing, but the O.P. is seeking to protect a wooden floor.

I bought them. They're great (well they're not on yet, but a chaps coming next week with a tilter and he reckons he's tilted loads on his own so I hope he's done some old steinways as it really is heavy). They feel and seem great. I used a converter online (from kgs to llbs as I got the weight of my steinway in pounds somewhere on the internet). If the ebay castors are what they say they are they're more than capable of holding the weight.

I haven't had any problems with them, but I've not put them on an old Steinway. As I said above, if the load rating is accurate, the four of them should take up to 880lbs. I think it's worth trying, anyway!

Oh dear, sorry to hear that. What happened to the rear ones? Did the metal buckle/twist, or the wheels come apart, or what?

You have a tricky set of requirements, which are somewhat incompatible - very heavy piano, and desire to protect the floor. I guess you may in the end have to go for metal-wheel castors and just be careful about the floor.

Buckled. 100kg load is no good as all the weight is at the back. The floor is not a concern. It's flagstone and I couldn't scratch it if I tried. I've seen some nylon ones that carry 200kg. I haven't come across any metal ones that carry 150kg even?

Did the castors at the back buckle while just standing there, or when moving the piano across the floor?

Not sure if it occurred when it was dropped or on moving, but it makes sense that 100kg each on the back two is completely insufficient for a piano so heavy. Apparently the weight increases ten fold on moving. I've ordered some 200 kg each castors.

What ones did you order?

Here In UK the firm "Castors and Wheels" sell special castOrs for pianos - and just about every thing elce. You will find them on the Internet - I have just bought four for a double bed complete with fittings to go into the bed's tube steel legs. Cost £50 delivered.

Goof, what is the website address of the company you refer to? A search of "Castors and Wheels" brings up lots of different suppliers, most of whom I was aware of, but not a company with that specific name.
