I run an annual piano party here, in my house in Bulgaria. The 2019 one was earlier this month, so I am now planning the 2020 vesion.

I thought that I might theme the 2020 party around jazz. Is anybody out there interested?

Thanks for the kind invitation! One of these days I'd like to attend.

Jazz is always great, but when you choose a narrower theme than "piano," you risk disaffecting people who aren't interested in the narrower theme. Just a thought.

With 4 pianos spread across 3 wings of the house people can play whatever they want without impinging on fellow guests.

For the jazz side of things there is also a double bass and a drum kit in the music room. I can even supply an outrageously pretty drummer.

Hi, Philip! Thank you for providing such a luring opportunity! This time I began to seriously think about it. How is your Bulgarian ?

I don't have one.

You don't need a visa to fly here from Israel.

I have got a line on a professional jazz pianist to give us a session. Once I am sure I will provide more details.

That sounds fantastic!

Is there much of a jazz scene in Bulgaria?

Yes . The first swallow in the 60s was the pianist Milcho Leviev, then emigrated to United States ; and very quickly, Bulgarian jazz acquired a national flavor. So, those who want to play in Bulgaria with local musicians are obliged to study the rhythm of Ruchenitsa (7/16),

The date of the climax of the party will be 11 July which is a Saturday. The party will start in the middle of the week before and go on into the following week.

On the evening of the 11th I have singer Marina Dragomiretzkaya and jazz pianist Samuel Eftimov booked to perform for us. Of course guests will be encouraged to play as well.

I am looking for suggestions on favourite pieces for them to play.

For guests as well as piano there are drums, guitar and double bass available. I am sure we can get something together.

The house sleeps 9 people without resorting to airbeds and the like, so accomodation is available on a first come first served basis.

I thought 7/16 was a bolt size, not a time signature.

Details seem to be filling themselves in. I have some arrivals due in the middle of the week around 8 July. Most people are coming around 10th or 11th for the professional session on the evening of the 11th. Most people should be away by 15th.

Due to complications as a result of the pandemic I have had to cancel the party. I am very, very sorry about this as I pride myself on my reliability.

The 2021 thread will open soon.

Postponing it for a year means it will coincide with the 2021 party, so you'll have two parties at the same time! Can't wait!
