Just curious, has anyone got this yet?

Kissin - Four Piano Pieces

If so, how difficult are the pieces (approximately, on the trustee 1-10 grading scale)? I heard him play his Dodecaphonic Tango once and loved it. I'm kinda itching to try it out myself smile

They look fun! I have had them on my wish list for a while, but there is a lot of scores I want. The tango does sound fun!

I never tried to play them. I am not sure if the 1-10 is referring to the RCM grading for example or is that an absolute scale ? In any case looking at the score I would say the dodecaphonic tango is very difficult.

Henle rates them on their website according to their own scale
Meditation 6
Tango 8
Intermezzo - 1
Toccata 8

An 8 is equal to Bach’s chromatic fugue or Beethoven’s Eroica

I don't think the Henle ratings make any sense. The Tango seem much, much easier than the Toccata, and the Tango is definitely nowhere the difficulty of Bach's Chromatic Fantasy or Beethoven's Eroica Variations. I couldn't find a recording of the Intermezzo but it's hard to imagine Kissin writing a level 1 piece. I found the Tango pretty boring.

If you go to Henle's website, you can page through the entire opus (some pages are blank) and get a better idea of the difficulty of these pieces.

Thanks, folks smile

I may just get them or the sake of it. Once I've moved, that is, so I'll have to wait until the New Year.
