Hello All,

Just got an email from Alan Palmer, Digital Piano Product Manager, Kawai America Corporation. Thought I’d share. I copied and pasted his most recent reply to my email. Here it is:

“The MSRP is $9995 but dealers can work off of that as you know.

The NV5 is more expensive than the NU1X but I think it is a nicer piano.

Availability will be tight at least for the next few months so 5 months is probably not an unrealistic estimate by the dealer.”

5 Months seems realistic based on my observations over the piano market in the US. The shops are wide spread and it seems that not many stores have all models available. Even here in germany where you can reach easily 10 or 20 stores in less than 1h don't have much in stock. I'm in contact with two stores which one available each but there are some things to clarify about shipping etc. because they are more than 4h away.

It will be interesting to see what the street price is in a year after the initial surge in sales has worked it's way through. Right now the list price is about 30% higher than the NU1X. There is more in the NV5 but is it worth a 30% premium and the N1X MSRP is 10% more. I would have thought the MSRP would be at least $1,000 less than it is.

I agree with you Peddler100. Unfortunately for me, this most likely ended my quest to own an NV5. Looks like it will be the CA98 for me.

The N1X MSRP actually went up after its initial release. 10k seems like a high price for the Nv5. If I was in the market, that price would drive me away from considering it.

I paid 8k (including tax) for my N1X. I would have considered the NV5 if it was available and cheaper. It's not (for me) worth 10K, 9k, or 8k, etc.

7899.00 (MSRP) is actually a good starting point for the NU1X if it could be had for 6 something.

God Bless,
David

I think it's reasonable for the market to settle at $6,500 to $7,000 in the end, beyond which it's a bit too expensive.

Don't forget, the NV-10 was/is in the same boat. $12.9k MSRP I think? Definitely not worth it compared to an N3X at that price, but people are buying NV-10s for under $10k, so there tends to be a lot of room to negotiate.

Here the NV10 price hasn't changed much since the release. It's still between 8.500 and 8.900 €.

I recall reports rumours from NAMM that the NV10 would retail at $20k! wink

I believe those rumors were referring to the upcoming NV20 (Baby-Novus). grin

Considering that the ‘Baby’ will fashion a full -solid spruce- soundboard, Neotex key tops, audio card, no interface (everything except for volume controlled from your tablet), a beautiful 4’ long cabinet, and physical modeling for not only the resonances but also the decay, I’d say it’s worth every penny!

P.S.

Kawai is debating whether to add tweeters or not (to reinforce the upper registers).

I like your rumors Pete14, but is there any way to make the rumors even bigger? For example, couldn't we add a rumor about Kawai resampling the SK-EX for binaural sound? wink

IIRC those rumors were actually confirmed (and then quickly retracted the next day) by Kawai US during the NAMM event! I recall a PW member reporting they stopped by the Kawai room a couple of times and got different stories on the price. That member ended up purchasing an N3X I think?

My dealer has already received and sold a unit before NAMM so I was pretty certain the inflated price was bogus. I bought the very next one they received.

New product releases can sometimes be chaotic, kind of reminds me of an ER triage unit smile

It seems like the sound will be so good through the soundboard that Kawai has deemed a headphone output unnecessary. Yes, Kawai will ax the headphone out for the NV20.

Seems pretty impossible even to try an NV-5 at the moment. I was in London for a few days so called in at Rose-Morris which is a Kawai main dealer they had no NV-5 to try. They had had two arrive but already sold so I presume they were ordered by purchasers. I was then told they had another two due in April but these are already sold too. Shame as I was interested to play it. Seems as though there will be a very long wait before any are available to actually test out.
