Yamaha DGX-650 or Roland F110? #2919145 12/02/19 05:11 PM

Hi,
I am looking to buy a digital piano for a beginner (I used to play when I was a kid). After a lot of reading, I narrowed it to Yamaha, Roland, Kawai (or Casio). I have seen several second hand pianos in my area but I am particularly interested in these 2 (both in very good condition, with stand and about the same price):

- Yamaha DGX 650
- Roland F110

What I like from the Yamaha is that it's a bit newer and it has so many options/features.
The Roland has a great design (modern, narrow) and I have read very good reviews.
What do you think?

Hello Egil33, welcome to the forum.

I believe the Roland F110 was released in 2010, while the DGX650 was released in 2013. Age is of course not the only factor, but it's perhaps worth noting, given that both of these have models have already been updated more than once.

GIven the choice between the two, if I was focussing on the piano, I would probably opt for the Roland over the feature-oriented DGX. However, in all honest, I would suggest that you consider raising your budget or delaying your purchase until you find a newer instrument - preferable one generation (e.g. around 2 years) old.

If you don't mind my asking, do you have a budget it mind?
Also, do you have a preference for form-factor/portability?

Kind regards,
James

Thanks for your feedback James!
I know the F110 is "quite old" already, but seems to be a great piano for beginners, it's in very good condition and the design is great for my small apartment. At the beginning, I was looking for a simple piano, so not sure I will use the features in the DGX650. However, the DGX650 seems to be a very good all-round piano.

My budget is around 300-400USD (I am in Switzerland) and I can get any of those 2 for that money. Given that I am a beginner I would like not to raise my budget much beyond that (maybe in the future, if I need to buy something better).

I am also interested in a Korg LP 380 (2015) but it's a bit more expensive. I have also read nice things about it and I think it's the latest generation of this Korg model.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I would still try to haggle the price a little lower, given the age of the instrument.

What do you think about the Korg LP 380 (2015)? Is it worth it to spend a bit more and get that one?

For that money, I think I could also get a Yamaha P45, which is newer but quite basic I think.

Best,
Emanuel

I have a P45 / P71 which I am using when I am away from my N1X. It is very basic and it's keyboard action is nothing to write home about. It's hard to control dynamics or voice melodies on this thing. I had an FP30 before which was better. The FP10 has the same keyboard action as the FP30. What is the price of the FP10 where you are? Is it similar to the price of the P45?

I had 3 of the DGXs, loved 'em, still do. The CFIII sample is still the best imo, and I'm considering getting the 660 before that sample is discontinued. The instrument sounds are so easy to incorporate in multi track stuff. I just wish they'd fit the Natural Wood action . . .
I have the FP50 now, it's been an excellent work-horse for the last 4 years.

Thanks for your comments. So I have discarded the P45. F10 is quite expensive here compared to the other options. And I really liked the L380 but it's also quite expensive and the dgx 650 is no longer available.
So my options right now are:
- F110 for about USD 300.
- DGX630 for about USD 150.
Both seem to be in great condition. I like the design of the F110 but the price of the dgx630 is quite tempting.
Opinions?

Thanks!!
