To owners of Kawai ES8, do you hear a kind of ringing (very high pitch - not too loud but sounds out of tune) when you play D4 with SK-5 Grand? I just noticed it and it is somewhat unpleasant. Not sure if it has to do with the sound (native), some setting I have changed or my ears. I thought it could be string resonance but I zeroed it on Virtual Technician and it is still there. Before I resort to factory reset (there are a few settings I would not like to lose) I would like to listen to ideas.

Thanks.

Did you try it in another room, or with headphones?

Often ringing sounds on a particular note can be due to harmonics in the room. Listening in headphones or taking it to another room (of a different shape) can confirm or rule that out. I haven't noticed it, but I don't usually use that piano sound.

Does the ringing only occur on one note?

If so, does transposing the pitch up/down also move the ringing up/down?

It might simply be a characteristic of the sampling.

Kind regards,
James

I checked on my ES8 for a ringing noise on the SK-5 Grand and couldn't detect anything out of the ordinary either through the speaker or through my headphones. Of course, there is always the possibility that I have no hearing at high-frequencies these days!

He should make an audio file with the presumed issue, so that other ES8 users could compare to.

I noticed when I put the key sensitivity (touch curve) back to normal (it was set to heavy). I still have to do the experiments suggested above. I will be back.

@DSC, I doubt it is something about my hears being more able to hear high frequency than yours. smile At 57, I don't think I hear beyond 15kHz (probably less)
