I have been searching around for a piano under 1000€, I have been looking at the Yamaha ydp serie. What piano would you recommend under 1000€. I am an intermediate-advanced player looking to improving my piano playing.

I have been using an old Yamaha CLP 200 from 1990 with 76 keys. I think whatever 88 keys keyboard you were to buy today (from Kawai, Yamaha, Roland or even Casio) it should be much better than your old digital. Of course, if you can, I suggest you to try the DPs before making your choice.

For only about 900€, I must recommend Casio's Privia PX-870. I bought mine a month ago and am absolutely loving it! I definitely feel that it offers the best bang for the buck. It looks amazing, the action is very realistic, and it definitely sounds like something much more expensive, even its onboard speakers sound quite impressive. I'm formally trained with a degree, and yet I would sooner play this instrument than a much pricier acoustic, even if I had the space for one; yes, it's indeed that good! You just can't go too far wrong with any model in the Privia lineup. Here is a pic of my new PX-870: ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/4j8NpKf/DSC07460a1500small.jpg)

As much as I enjoy my PX 870, I think when you start to get into that price range Yamaha, Kawai and Roland are better bets.

So the difference is 24 euros... Maybe the AP-470 has a very aggressive price, but from the pictures it looks much nicer and the specs are slightly better compared with the PX-870. It looks like it should cost much more...

Hmmm, well I for one, much, much, MUCH prefer the sleek, modern/minimalist look of the PX-870 with its much smaller footprint, over that of the somewhat, dare I say it, slightly uninspiring, old-school, bulkier dimensions of the AP-470... and I'm an old dude. PS: And yes, normally there are several hundred dollars between these two models, at least here in Canada. And my way of thinking is, why pay more money just to have more fake wood?... plus to my tired old eyes at least, it just doesn't look as nice as the lower-priced model. But of course YMMV.

I'm for the traditional old-style classic piano look, so to me more a digital piano resembles the shapes of a classic acoustic piano, more I like it. Anyway, the price of that AP-470 here in Europe is incredibly low!

Anyway, the price of that AP-470 here in Europe is incredibly low! From memory the biggest difference of the AP-470 over the PX-870 is speakers and amplifier. I think the sound engine is the same, key action is the same. There might be more built in pianos but I think the one you will play 95% of the time is the same on the AP-470 as the PX-870. I really noticed that the sound of the AP-470 was significantly superior to the other casio models and yamaha/kawai in that price bracket. There was a better balance of quality of the sound engine and amplifier/speakers for the AP-470. The Kawai's I felt had a significantly better piano sound engine but the amplifier and speakers at the price level let them down.

Anyway, the price of that AP-470 here in Europe is incredibly low! My tastes have kinda changed since I first began shopping around for a digital piano a few months back. I was originally leaning toward a more traditional-looking instrument such as the AP-470 or something similar, and then I discovered the PX-870 and there was just no turning back. And due to our rather cramped living room, the PX-870 just makes more sense for us, as it takes up less than 30cm of floor-space, front to back! We've been receiving many positive comments from visitors, not only regarding the lovely sound, but also its sleek/modern appearance. Unfortunately it cost us more than most other people pay, due to our residing way out in the middle of nowhere (a very remote island situated several miles off of another island, in the mighty North Atlantic) than it does most everywhere else. The shipping fee alone was well over $200, though the store kindly covered over half of this amount to close the deal. Plus there's always the whopping 15% sales tax in our part of Canada, which can sting a little too. But I must say that I am very pleased indeed with this fine instrument, and I'm having such a wonderful time playing again... after my four decade hiatus!

^Yeah, and I'm puzzled when I read that a "low rent" piano like the PX870 is going to be "frustrating" for advanced pianists. I'd say I'm advanced -- certainly no virtuoso but advanced-- and I've played quite a few pianos in my time. I'd say just about every upright acoustic I've played has been FAR more frustrating than the PX870. Maybe my frustration threshold isn't finely-tuned enough.

I think this negative view that some folks seem to have about the Casio name is likely due to them only knowing it as that company which made all those cheap "toy" keyboards way back in the 1980's, and therefore will flat-out refuse to ever believe that today Casio is indeed one of the major players in the business. I did a ton of research before purchasing mine, and quickly discovered that Casio's Privia line was the best fit for my needs. And now that I've been playing my PX-870 for over a month, I know that I made the right choice. Those who insist on knocking a brand simply because of what they used to manufacture decades ago... well these people will probably never allow themselves to admit that today's Casio products are of very high quality. So instead, they're actually willing to fork out 2 or 3 times more for an instrument which is in fact no better, just so that they won't have to see that Casio logo stuck on it. Seems odd to me, but to each his/her own. In my humble opinion, those who keep insisting that playing a Casio digital piano is a "frustrating" experience... perhaps are just lacking the skills required to play one. (there, it had to be said)

I think there's limited value in the review of a new piano. The value comes when it's reviewed as a year-old piano. Allow time for some wear to take its toll. That's when the review becomes revealing.
