This is OT but I’ll keep it short. The GB1K I bought, I bought directly from Yamaha Piano Company and it was owned by the bank. It was a spectacular deal and they took my Baldwin upright as trade in for a great trade in deal. For the price I actually paid, that piano was really nice.

Ah, you are correct! I was thinking of the current model, the GL-10!

The action could be a wood action, or the light colored ABS action. It would depend on how old the piano is.

Sorry for the mistake about the music rack.

Yes, the Kawai GM-10 had a sliding music desk, and also includes a full sostenuto function on the center pedal. Not sure about the GB-1.

Both of these pianos are economy pianos, and have their limitations - especially in the bass tone quality. But they are serviceable pianos given their limitations of short strings and short key lengths.

Sorry, I was incorrect about the music rack. In the older GM-10 it was fixed, and I had forgotten.

The plot thickens, I've watched 4 youtube videos of the GM10 and they all had a sliding music rest. Two of them showed the plate, and the model appeared as GM-10K, so perhaps the K means there is a variant of the GM-10 that had a sliding rest. I have a GL-10, and the music rest in the videos of the GM-10 looks like I could just take it off the GM-10 and use it on my GL-10, they seem identical.

Please see this OT

http://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/182815/Re:_Kawai_GM-10_Any_one_have_o.html

In it you will find that whatever origin, Japan (Model LE) or Indonesia (Model K), the Kawai GM10 apparently always had a sliding music desk.

Problem solved?

You might get him to send you a photo of the serial number and the spot on the harp where the model is shown. It would be nice to be confident it's really a GM-10. You can verify the age with the serial number.

Good idea! Thanks!!

That's a relief, I thought I was losing my memory! I'm pretty sure I looked at one in the spring, but it was horribly out of tune and scratched up like a cat had been dancing on it, LOL. And that one also had the non-sliding music desk. So many model numbers, LOL, it's WAY confusing!

THANKS EVERYONE!!!!!!

Then you might have to get a more recent GM10 or maybe go to the next step up in the Kawai line. If it were Yamaha, which I’m much more familiar, instead of a GB1, you’d step up to a GC1, which includes the sliding music rack (I think). The jump in price as new wasn’t big. So Kawai’s step up model, gently used, might just be what you’re searching for.

Again best wishes.
