“ Mr. Glass may not care about his legacy, but he’s hardly unaware of the dynamics that shape a composer’s reputation. “If I’m to be remembered for anything,” he is quoted as saying in the program notes at the Morgan, “it might be for the piano music, because people can play it.””

I love the idea of music that can be played by people who aren’t virtuosos!

His book Words Without Music is well worth reading. It tells of his life, and describes how he worked a number of different jobs in New York, as a plumber, cab driver, loading trucks, but he never lost sight of his music. He would drive a cab because he could disappear for a European tour and come back and go to work without any questions. Once, he gave his hack license to the dispatcher, and the guy said, Glass, I haven’t seen you in a while. Philip said, my mother’s been sick. The dispatcher said, yeah, yeah, and gave him the keys to a car.

Interested in the sheet music. Does anyone know if it's available?
