I have had my CA95 that I bought used about 5 months ago and have had my laptop plugged into it via a TRS connector since the speakers sound so nice.

Yesterday I had the volume turned all the way up and connected it to the piano, and there was a loud pop followed by 60Hz buzzing...uh oh. I turned it off then on again, and lost all the sound through the right side frown

Is my amp shot? Is there a way to get replacement parts?

Opened the case up, plugged and unplugged the speaker cable. I can hear a loud pop coming from the right hand side ones. Seems like the transistor is stuck on, so it's gone frown

Ugh, I don't really have time to disassemble the whole instrument and find those transistors and solder new ones on.

Hello trigalg693,

I winced a little when I read "I had the volume turned all the way up..." and then "...there was a loud pop".

It's possible that the amp has blown. The CA95 is a few generations older, but Kawai America may still be able to assist you.
My recommendation would be to give them a call to explain the situation.

Kind regards,
James

Yes, the amp is blown. Perhaps you can get replacement parts. But ...
- Do you have the service manual?
- Do you know how to troubleshoot and repair?
If not ... seek the help of a repair shop.

Hoboken NJ across the river from Manhattan.

No I don't have a service manual, but I can see all the circuit boards and screws holding the whole thing together and can narrow it down to one of a few transistors. I'm not going to do that though, it would be a huge time sink.

I'll try Kawai America, thanks!

I asked for your location because I know a few electronics repair people who'd be able to test/replace those transistors, caps, chips... very I expensively for you but they are all in the Midwest and Westcoast. What I'm trying to say keyboard amp doesn't necessarily need to be repaired by a keyboard repairman. Best of luck!
