We are trying to help an elderly gentleman, who needs to downsize , arrive at a reasonable selling price for his kurtzmann baby grand. I could not find a model number other than the casting of kurtzmann piano company 1848 Buffalo New York on the interior at the soundboard if that is the right term.I have tried to search for information on kurtzman and it seems that there was an original piano company and then various later incarnations which may vary the appropriate pricing.I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post this question. please advise. Thank you.

Other searching seemed to indicate that baby grands might be identified by length rather than model number.
If that is the case from which point to which point would I be measuring? Thanks, Marko

Marko13, the length of a grand piano is measured from its very front - the wooden rail in front of the keys, at the player's waist - to the very furthest point on the far end of the casework.

The 1848 date will be a reference to some exhibition that the company was in, or won a prize at, in 1848, or the date when it was founded. It won't be the age of the piano.

Pianos don't have any "absolute" value. An old piano is worth what someone will pay for it; no more, no less. That varies from place to place. A piano that won't sell is therefore "worth" zero.

It might hep if you could post some photos here.

Hah! "Whiskey" is Irish! Scotch is Whisky.

I am afraid it may not be wise to hope to get much for the piano, especially if it is quite old. As with cars, mileage and service history count, but location is also a factor - in some areas, second-hand pianos fetch more than in other places.

Thanks for the correction LOL ;-) it's ok I like them both :-)
here are the only pictures i got fwiw
I realize used pianos don't bring much and this isn't pristine
sometimes you have to pay to get someone to take them away
just trying to do the best for him that we can.
