Also concerned that the soundboard speaker system might also create issues with the neighbours.

I was one of the people writing about quality issues. But that said Kawai DID resolve them for me and I still think sound projection on those pianos is the best. Also don't worry about neighbourse. Soundboard=/loudness. Sound is fuller and better projected but it shouldn't make difference for neighbours.
Anyway it's not easy choice. I've played on all top pianos you listed and all of them have some good qualities. So far Kawai won for me because of the soundboard which is impressive not only for me as a pianist but also other people(friends, family) who listened to it. All were impressed by how full it sounds, like no other digital piano I had. And consider that while you can't change sound system on the piano, you CAN change it's sound via VST like Pianoteq so you can get Roland like sound on much better sound system.
Make your research and tests. This is important choice smile

TL;DR but I think the worst thing to help solving a decision paralisys is posting on a DP forum. laugh

BTW, tongue in cheek (kind of).

Kawai ES8, Roland RD2000, Yamaha AG06 mixer, Presonus Eris E5 monitors, Sennheiser HD598SR phones.

I’m also self taught, played since 13, now 40. Apparently very keen on pianos smile It’s been a true love all that time and there has never been a single slightest moment I thought I should abandon piano. I grew in my career of software engineer and have had a stable and rather good income for the last 20 years. And despite that I always thought “piano is just a hobby”. I’ve been taught to feel guilty about buying expensive things, it’s a cultural thing here, we’re a poor country smile Which is why I finally bought my first hybrid piano only this year. (BTW thanks Kawai James who I think articulated well how if one is serious about his hobby should get the best he could afford which ultimately made my mind). How I’m sorry now that I didn’t buy a hybrid earlier!

Exactly. You won't find this kind of information in any list of specifications.
Specs don't matter.

But a large part of your paralysis is having these weighted scores floating freely in your brain which is a terrible way to keep track. The spreadsheet will help to nail enough of them down to make your decision clearer, even if you tinker with the scores and weightings over and over and over.

The winner will become clear much quicker.

Yes, agree.
All my friends who have heard the sound of it say that the next DP must be bought with a soundboard speaker in future. I have to say soundboard is an ideal solution for DP audio system.
Actually, the built-in sound source only partially performs it. With my VSTs (VSL/Galaxy vintageD/Ivory2ACD), it works even better.

Heard from my Kawai dealer, CA99 will be released next year. But don't know its new features and specification at present.

Sorry but this is BS smile I can't stop being amazed how people still think dealers are some kind of insiders. The last time when new Kawai pianos were days from being announced and some screenshots leaked, James (and Kawai for that matter) went out of their way to cover the leak and remove the links although it was just something that happened in the next days. And now we're talking about a dealer who knows about a release after a whole year and is sharing that info with customers smile Come on.

This happens in every industry. Much of what we know about new iPhones pre-release is because of leaks from company insiders.

Company insiders are one thing but dealers are not supposed to be among them smile Do you think Kawai contact dealers and tells them: hurry up and sell the stock because in one year we will release the next ones. Ohh, and please tell customers too because they need to know the truth wink In another universe maybe. Or maybe in no known universe. Most probably the latter.

Take easy, think of it as a rumor. laugh
The dealer I said is not a normal local dealer, but general agency in my country.
Wait and see.

The Novus NV5 was ‘released’ this year. Still waiting. Anyway, given recent history I wouldn't want a first release of the product.

A Thought ...

Decide on Budget ... How much is my absolute maximum?
Go play as many pianos/Mfgr's below that price
Make notes about what you liked
Wait a few days

Go play the pianos again
Make notes about what you liked
Wait a few days

Go play the pianos again
Make notes about what you liked
Buy the one you like best ...

Yes, NV5 is a realistic and higher grade choice than possible CA99.
Hope it goes on sale soon.

robinlb, may I ask where you are based?
The NV5 is already available in some European countries, although as with any new product, demand is extremely high.

Kind regards,
James

Hi James,

Im in Beijing. The information of CA99 is coming from the agency GoWell music.
As a user and fan of Kawai, I hope more products including Novus/Aures can be introduced to my area, andI look forward to try NV5 soon.
Also thank you for your continued help here.

Hello robinlb, thank you for your reply.

I'm afraid I do not know if/when the NV5 will arrive in China, however I hear that the NV10 is being considered for the China market, so perhaps this is a good opportunity to express your interest with Kawai Shanghai.

Hello James,

I have already expressed my interest and suggestion to Shanghai head office by email and phone from last year.
You known, comparing with Yamaha, in the sale of the Kawai product is not rich enough in our maket, especially in the mid to high grade series. But Yamaha always has full lines, such as NU1X, N1X, N3X and U1TA2.
And CA series only have CA48 (local model CA28), CA30 (CA15 with soundboard speaker).
CA98 Im using is imported directly from Japan by myself, overpriced and without warranty service.
So hope more Kawai DP products can be introduced in future.
I will also continue to focus on the new review of NV5 here.
Thanks again!

Neither the CA48 and CA30 have the large display. I wonder if the absence of the the higher end products in China is just an issue of language and localization. Your CA98 from Japan is running English I assume, and not localized to Chinese, right?
