We have had our new CLP685 for almost a month now and are very satisfied with the sound quality and the keyboard. It plays very well.

Recently we noticed that when the speakers are switched on (especially when it is very quiet in the room) you can hear a permanent, soft noise from the speakers if you hold your ear about 15 cm in front of it. Is that normal? Are other CLP685 owners aware of this, too?

Many greetings,
Thomas

I can hear such a noise on N1X and NU1X. It’s not audible from the player position though. We’ve commented that’s normal. It’s most probably the case with 685 too. And I’ve heard similar noise from my Kawai pianos too.

Hissing is normal? In 2019? I don't think so.

It was normal and expected a half century ago, but we've come to expect better today.

So if the 685 hisses I have to wonder what has happened to Japanese quality.

There's a lot I can hear if I'm really close to a set of driver,s that is entirely silent at listening distance. I'm assuming you aren't 15cm from the speakers when you normally play and listen?

I can hear a noise from within my N1. It's like a very soft Ab. You really don't notice it intill you turn off the piano an it stops. Any one else experiencing that?

I really do not understand where is the issue. Which audio amplifier do not make very little hiss when switched on? Try a high end stereo hifi amplifier (one costing many $$$) with the best speakers set. Switch it on, turn up volume knob at maximum level, then go near one speaker and listen.... do you hear nothing?

I have a p515 Yamaha it has similar problem though when playing notes if you hold your ear 15 cm to speakers , , and it is really audible if you jack up the reverb to 50 to 100 percent I guarantee you have this on your clp685 Bc it has same sound engine as p515 it has more to do with the sampling and the way sound was processed , not your speakers
