Hi - got to a gig last weekend, and the RD-800 is stuck on a loading screen when powering on. Fortunately, I had a beaten up A-90 about 15 miles away. Keyboard is normally stored in vehicle in storage, and suspect with cold damp weather here recently it got condensation.

I've kept it in a warm dry environment for a week, but haven't yet got it to boot - just "loading" with a spinning wheel.

Tried searching for a factory reset, but it seems you need to be in the system in order to reset it.

Can get to the update screen on boot, but I can't format a USB stick, since I can't boot the RD-800 perform a format (is there a way to replicate a formatted stick to trick the RD-800 into reading it?).

Any ideas? Are there any secret power on key combos?

You're telling me! I was thinking of moving over to something like a Pianoteq / Laptop / Interface / MIDI keys combo, but was concerned about reliability.

Now I've got a Roland that won't boot. I've had three A90's over the years, and they've been cobbled together to make a working one (albeit with the hammers that have gone brittle and broken being relegated to the outer octaves).

Gets me through a gig, but ideally need the RD-800 back on the road. Fortunately I play in a rhythm and blues band, so mainly piano/organ presets. Would have been a nightmare if I were needing specific stage setups.

Have postponed recording for people for now whilst I try to solve this. If anybody knows of any solutions - please!!!

Technically the term boot(strap) describes the process of a (minimal) firmware program loading an operating system from a separate storage medium like a floppy disk, a hard disk drive or something other removable. The goal of the process to save money on the solid-state storage required to store the firmware and allow for easy updates of the operating system stored elsewhere.

Obviously with the advent of cheap flash storage, all this is now moot even for universal general purpose computers.

Digital pianos running only firmware from solid-state memory don't boot in that fore-mentioned manner. They simply run their (complex) firmware program after powering up. And as with any special purpose computer running some code, it can go wrong and hang up for any reason. The most likely one still being bad power supply.

Three ways to boot a computer:

1. Cold Boot
2. Warm Boot
3. Steel-toed Boot

Erm, thanks for that guys.

As you can appreciate, I'm using the term "boot" in its common sense to describe the time between turning on and the system being available (as systems of this ilk get closer to running on an OS it's not too broad a sweep). I'm aware broadly how equipment of this type works as I've been fortunate enough to use it since the early 80s.

However, I need to get equipment working for gigs. If a PSU is suspect, then fair enough. If any other tips, I'd appreciate any helpful input.
