I am putting Medtner on hold for a bit, to prepare for the Cliburn Amateurs next year. IT maybe reckless bu I'm learning new pieces this late in the game:
Chopin Barcarolle
Ravel La Valse - slowly morphing into my own transcription
And relearning the third movement of Prokofiev Concerto No.3, which I studied 30+ years ago.
After next summer, I'm planning on resurrecting the Medtner Sonata-Ballada again (I played it 20 years ago then about 10 years ago again) and pairing it with Chopin Barcarolle, then filling the rest of the recital program with pieces in F#-major: Scriabin 4th sonata, etc... I'm also learning Prokofiev 3 for the Cliburn Amateur. There's a competition in Spain I really want to enter, and it's probably at the end of April, so I might have to choose. Maybe I should enter both and hope one of them accepts me.

I’m working on Liszt’s Liebestraume no 3.
I had started a few weeks ago on the Hungarian rhapsody #2 but realised that I was avoiding practicing because it’s too difficult and I couldn’t face it after a day of work! The Liebestraume is much more manageable 😀

Which competition in Spain? Is it that Vigo one? The Barcarolle seems to be a popular choice this year... you, Ken, me... I forget who else is working on it. (Well, technically I haven't started yet. :p)

It is indeed. I really wanted to enter in 2019, but I wouldn't have been able to take part even if I had entered (and been accepted). BTW I'm not doing the Barcarolle. Thanks for the idea. I'm looking for a piece that's around that length...

Bach, various p/f from WTC II on the piano; and the Allemande from the sixth cello suite (on the cello ), using the Bärenreiter editions in both cases. I hope to make my playing worthy of such heavenly music.

Yikes! 😬 In terms of memorization, the Alcotts is the most manageable of the Concord Sonata movements; it is only 6 minutes long and very tonal. The rest of the movements are twice the size and not nearly as tonal. That is not to say that the Alcotts is not difficult.

Started a new piece last week, since the Rach Prelude 23/5 was driving me batty. I am learning Nocturne Op 6#2 by Clara Schumann. I am also dabbling w a Lowell Liebermann Nocturne as well (op 38, I dont know if thats the right number, its one of the more famous ones of Liebermann).

I had decided to just stick to improving works I've already learned until the middle of next year, but I always play everything better when I'm learning, so I've added the Paganini Variations by Brahms to my list. I don't know how well I plan to learn it yet.

Polishing 3rd movement Schumann Fantasie Opus 17, C major
Attempting 1st movement Schumann Fantasie - eek, maybe drowning. Teacher says I am capable of doing the first and second movements. Gulp.
Chopin Nocturne #17, 62/1, B Major - thoroughly enjoying this.
Chopin Mazurka 26, C# minor 41/1 - fun

The piece I plan to upload for the upcoming PW Recital #56 and the piece that I uploaded in a condensed version for a previous recital in the full version.
Not going to push myself into learning too many new pieces at this time.

It being November, I am polishing up my Christmas Carols. They are so much fun to play! I enjoy doing this for the Holiday season. It kind of gives me a break from dedicating a lot of time to learning something new.

Medtner Sonata Romantica (op.53 no.1).
I started 4.5 years ago, practiced it on and off, and started really spending time on it a few months ago. I'm now really close to fully memorizing it and hoping to perform it early next year.

Beethoven Sonata No. 79 (meant to start on this months ago and postponed it; now I'm actually doing it). It's not "hard" per se but I doubt I'll manage the first movement in Presto! It's really good practice for me, though, on exactly the level I'm on right now. The second movement is to die for. Also Rachmaninoff Moment Musical No. 5. In love with this piece, it's sooo beautiful. Where the Beethoven is great practice in all things technique, this one challenges musicality and expression. It's a good combination
