I think I posted last about my long stays in Oklahoma helping my sister and BIL. Well, my BIL passed away in June. After my husband and I came home after the funeral, I thought I would be re-engaging in summer piano lessons and chorus in the Fall.
My plans got derailed with a diagnosis of breast cancer in July. I started chemotherapy in August. I’m on week 9 of 20 weeks of chemo. Surgery to follow chemo. And radiation to follow surgery. I’m hoping I can advocate for a double mastectomy as I have a fairly aggressive form of breast cancer. Staging won’t be done until after surgery to see how many lymph nodes need to be removed.
I’m hoping this aggressive approach will minimize the chance of recurrence. It will be well into Spring before I am all done with treatment. I will have lost a year + to all my regular activities here at home. I have not really touched the piano since January. I’m very tired from treatment already. And I just can’t find the motivation.
I’m just praying I beat this and can get back to some normal life eventually. Cancer is very isolating. People don’t know what to say. So they say nothing. I would be grateful for your prayers and good wishes for me.

Prayers being offered for you. I know what you mean about people not knowing what to say so they say nothing. Join a support group is my advice for you.
Peace
All these years playing and I still consider myself a novice.

Oh, I am so sorry for this. You're right, it's exhausting and it makes it hard to have any motivation for something like piano. But your first priority is your health, and we're all here rooting for you. Maybe just playing (not practicing) will bring you some calm, but do what is good for you. Keep us posted - you've been a valued member of this community for a long time.

I hope your family is now supporting you as much as you were supporting everyone. I wish you a return to good health and that you are able to have some tranquillity during the next weeks as you recover.

My deepest sympathy and best wishes go out to you. I hope you will beat this and be able to return to what you love to do.

Such a hard time you're going through! And completely understandable that you don't have the energy or the motivation to play the piano. It can wait - it'll be there for you when you have recovered. I understand the isolation. Also, being ill very much draws your energy inward, trying to cope with everything.
Is there a cancer support group for you where you live? Or online? If not, or if you feel like talking about something else, please feel welcome to keep posting here, even if you don't play.

I would be grateful for your prayers and good wishes for me. You got it! I lost my wife to cancer two years ago. Before that I had cancer myself. So I can empathize as both patient and caregiver with everything you say. Perhaps most significantly, though, I had my five year checkup a few months ago, and am "officially" a survivor, so in that capacity I say, "you can beat this!" Hang in there. I'll be praying for you.

The piano (and music) will be there waiting for you when you are ready for them again. Best wishes, and keep us posted about your progress.

dynamobt,
Though I'm not often on the ABF, I saw this today and want you to know I am praying for you. May God bless you with His peace along your journey.

I have found a very good online support group. It’s been very helpful and reassuring to share with other women going through this.
Thank you for all your replies and support. They help.

....... I would be grateful for your prayers and good wishes for me. Dynamobt, you have my prayers and my good wishes go out to you. Even if you don't have the energy to practice or play, stay active here on PW. Your knowledge and love of piano hasn't disappeared just because your energies are elsewhere for a time!

You are in my thoughts and prayers. As Sam said, the piano will be waiting for you. Take care of yourself right now. We will, with our prayers and good thoughts, help to pull you through.
Blessings to you

Dynamobt...I hear your pain, and I am here to tell you there is a light out there! Just a year and a half ago I could barely put one foot in front of the other. I had been diagnosed with Chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The cancer center recommended a new drug called Imbruvica, and I started taking it in May of last year. There was such a dramatic improvement, that last April I was feeling so positive, and healthy I decided to do something I’ve wanted to do since I was a child! Learn to play piano! I am 81 years old, and I’m loving this new adventure!!!

Hi dynamobt, I am brand-new to this forum, so we haven't come across one another yet... until today... but please know that my wife and I will be keeping you in our daily thoughts and prayers as you continue with your treatments. You will beat this, and you will come back stonger than ever because of it!
Very best wishes to you and yours. Hugs from Newfoundland, Canada!
