As a customer, I too would be quite pleased. I don’t expect my tech to know everything— it’s just not reasonable. But I’m very pleased when he will give it his best shot and thrilled when the problem is fixed

Duaner, I can't see how your question could possibly be interpreted as asking how the damper action works.

When I think about it, I realise that I mostly tend to go in the other direction, following from the pedal up, to see where things stop working.

Do you think there is any particular advantage in one direction or the other?

Usually there is no difference, except that sometimes it is easier to work one way or the other.
