Play slow enough to be able to do it. 1 second per note, hands together, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, whatever it takes. You'll get it eventually. We've all been there. 😊 Or you think you've gotten it... until you get to the lovely lovely B harmonic minor... Ugh 😑. B harmonic minor. Wish me luck trying to play that scale in OCTAVES, sixteenth note values, with quarter note = 80 for my MINUMUM required tempo. Exams, am I right? *cries in anxiety* Yep, B harmonic minor is in the RCM level 4 exam. Yeah I checked the syllabus. However you don’t have to play it as fast. My tempo is sixteenth note values, quarter note = 120, four octave. Good luck on your exam!

Bb harmonic minor still trips me up on the way down, lol. 😂😂😂 I do 4 octave so eventually it falls into place. That's my absolute worst scale! Funny I had thought of a thread topic on favorite / least favorite scales. Bb harmonic minor is definitely fun . G# harmonic minor is another. Then there's the 4 octave Eb min arpeggio. Can't get that one up to speed. The Eb harmonic minor just feels so WEIRD to me! I always feel like I'm doing it wrong and look up the fingering, but nope, I'm doing it right, it just feels strange. That LH 1-3 feels awkward.

I think I'm going to have to learn all the appropriate scales in thirds before I can play the pieces I want to play, the way I want. One day I'll make them sound nice. Today is not that day.

Yikes, that's fast! I'm only at 76, same values. Eek!

Someone on Reddit's /u/piano subreddit mentioned that for his Masters in Piano Performance at the conservatory, he was still required to pass a scales test, albeit more like what Ijustplaypiano described and faster with formula patterns, and less like the simpler scales you and I are working on. (Everything is relative!)
