Another music chain in nearly 20 cities is closing down. Weak profitability and competition from online stores led to the Decision. Now you can get 50% off on everything. Too bad I have everything I need!

That’s too bad - they had a lot of cool stuff in there last time I went to the Copenhagen store.
It’s getting harder and harder to find good and interesting physical music stores - cant be helped with online pricing driving margins on this stuff down.
Ah well - times change - mustn’t become a grumpy old man.
(It does make me a bit grumpy though :-) )

In Denmark they have not yet announced their closing-down sale. Their website merely informs of the bankruptcy.

4sound in Norway got down too. This happens in many other branches right now. Sports, Electronics, Clothes & Fashion, and you name it. This is the new era of the change of business structure and thereby society. A lot of people may find new jobs equivalent to a small towns inhabitants.

Times, they are ‘a changing.

I used to love going to Guitar Center to check out new products or sometimes for the heck of it. At the very least I would leave with a pair of cables, and sometimes with a whole keyboard, monitors, and a Tascam 4-channel recorder (remember those?) I would never buy sight unseen, yet now I do all the time.

The truth is that we are disconnected despite being always connected. We do not enjoy the communal experience, as a matter of fact, we are annoyed by other people and prefer living in a virtual cocoon.
We take our food to go (thank you, very much); we want the movie theater to ourselves or else; window-shopping has given way to screen-shopping. We want everything to and for ourselves, and we want it now!

Tapping on a screen magically gets you a ‘ride’, and you don’t even have to speak with/to the driver: “Where to?” There’s an app for that, and once you get there, you may or may not tip (in the app.)

Times, they are a’ changing! wink

I hear you Pete! (But I'm loathe to buy anything from Guitar Center, whether sight-unseen or sight-seen. The place is so very low-rent.)

So basically you're saying that there are quite a few stores in Scandinavia who are looking to offload Nord Piano 4's and Nord Grand's at half price?

hmm, wonder if they ship to the UK...

Went to the store in Malmö today, and it was almost empty. Obviously a little late to the party. I advised my Danish friend to get a Presonus HD7 headphones at 300 SEK (about €27) but he didn't. A few minutes later, they were gone too.

Thomann and Gear4Music probably to "blame" for this. cool According to the Norwegian website, they say 4Sound is back in Norwegian hands (whatever that means) and will be (has) opened from October 18th.

https://www.4sound.no/maintenance-no-5.htm

On the Danish website they say that customers will be informed, on the website or via e-mail of a coming sale, and the website is down due to the bankruptcy.

https://www.4sound.dk/maintenance-dk.htm

The Swedish website informs of a sale, and the discount will be raised to 50%. Not a word about a bankruptcy. You probably guessed it, but the web address is 4sound[dot]se. cool

Great - this uber consolidation allows Amazon and a superstore to gain scale economies, offering the very best prices to musicians going forward! Not.

I frequently visited their store when looking for a new piano. The one in Malmö was rather large compared to others here. I thought they were robust financially, so it strikes me as quite odd that they went down before other smaller ones did. Tremolo (another store in Malmö) had to close not long ago as well.

Now I guess I have no choice but to visit Denmark when I’m in the mood to try out some new digitals.

Shame about 4sound. That was like the Bonner’s here in Sweden, lacking only Kawai in their inventory.

The small and mid sized stores are nice places to inspire musicians.

If you go to Copenhagen to look at pianos be sure to drop by here:
https://www.digitalpiano.dk/

They have a great selection and also lots of lovely acoustics - great place to spend a few hours.

That’s where I tried and bought my CA98 which I previously owned. Great store indeed!

Interesting that gear4music is getting some blame. It has had in the past it’s own struggles. Personally I want gear4music to stay around as its showroom in York is the best digital piano showroom near me. Widest range, greatest ability to test out multiple DPs in one place. Dawson’s in Manchester have a decent range but they have crammed too many pianos in and you can’t even try them out sitting an appropriate distance from the piano.

Others don’t have a decent range.

Tremolo gone as well? That's sad, I actually did some business with them, got my Focusrite there. Then there's not much left in the Öresund region, besides the aforementioned digitalpiano.dk in Copenhagen.

My words about blaming Gear4Music (or Thomann for that matter) were more of a tongue-in-cheek comment, didn't mean it in a derogatory way.

In Iceland, we have a saying, one's death is another one's bread (roughly translated) and that is sadly true in the competitive environment of musical equipment retail. That's just the way it is.

For the record, I got my Garritan CFX from Gear4Music, and was very pleased with their service. Think I even gave a positive review, at the time.

Got a mail today from 4sound in which they informed me that they are selling off new products from their on line store. This will be directed to selected shops at a discount of 30%. Perhaps you can find something good there.

Uber were even trialling a button in the app to tell the driver not to talk to you at all
