That's a fast cycle from announcement-to-release! At least compared to what I recall with the NV-10. I'm really looking forward to checking out an NV-5 later this year, in particular to compare it against the NV-10, Yamaha NU1 and Yamaha U3. No intention of giving up the NV-10 though wink

However, it's true that the NV5 will arrive in Europe before the US.

Thanks Tyrone, I just saw that thread. Perhaps my estimates were not too far off after all? wink

I spoke to the Kawai marketing manger yesterday in California. He said the NV5 is already headed our way to the UNited States. A few were pre sold and more will come in a few months. I agree about the price point on the NV5 being much better for a Senior like me. For now I will get a Yamaha p515 for upstairs and wait to see the NV5. Almost bought the nu1x. The action was the best but no controls to cut down the treble. P515 with ivory pianos is very satisfying.

Just a small comment. In the Yamaha Smart Pianist app that runs on tablets, one can cut down any notes (for Avantgrands including NU1X) as each note may be individually adjusted.

Congrats on the P515, it's a very fine DP, and you may just find you don't need any more (which would be great for the pocketbook) smile

One thing to note, when the NV-10 was released in the US, it had some ridiculous "list price" from Kawai US, I think $16000 or $19000, which was WAY outside of reality. But even from day one of release, early buyers like me were getting it for $10-11k, and now you can find it for <$10k. This isn't to say you should expect an immediate 50% discount on the NV5 (since Kawai no doubt is pricing it better due to having better market information due to NV-10 sales) but keep in mind that you can usually negotiate Kawai's US list prices, sometimes rather aggressively compared to other brands.

Nice! Now people have an alternative for the NU1X. It costs more but has lots more features if you want them.

Natural and beautiful.
Although we think the audio system on Nv5 is almost same as CA98, but as I expected before, it sounds like a lot more cabinet vibrations than 98.

Is anyone absolutely clear on what "Recorded right out of the box with an iPhone X" means? Line out to the iPhone? Or . . . iPhone mic of the sound in the room? Or . . .?

It's great sound - I'd like to know how it was routed or captured.

To my ears it very definitely sounds like the latter.

It's definitely the sound of the room, lots of reverb and picking up the noise of the seat. They've got it turned up very loud which is why it sounds very 'grandy'. Most DP demos you hear are line out and very clean quiet mastered signals. In a small echo-y room like that turned up loud it really does sound like a grand. It's also testament to the abilities of a $1,000 phone.

Nice video, thanks for sharing Fripp!

The video and audio quality from that iPhone X is pretty good too.

Cheers,
James

It's easy to adjust bass or treble to ur like through touch screen UI, and you can have some different ways to modify outputs.

Just a small comment. In the Yamaha Smart Pianist app that runs on tablets, one can cut down any notes (for Avantgrands including NU1X) as each note may be individually adjusted

Pete - does the NU1X have the brightness control in the piano room section of the Yamaha Smart Piano app?

I answered this in another thread. No. Except by selecting a different less bright voice. The volume and tuning of each note can be adjusted, but no eq, and/or not brightness knob. Maybe you mean something else?
