Does anybody know about this make / model? I can't find much about Edelweiss in the forum search.
I live in a townhouse with narrow awkward stairs and had up till now resigned myself to only having a digital piano, but this 127cm grand makes me think I could possibly get an acoustic. Obviously I realise it's not going to have thundering bass, and is a bit pricey at 12k for the non-self-play version, but in all other respects (action etc) I'm wondering if it could be good or if it's all style over substance.

I have seen this model of piano at conventions and it is not anything different or new. It is simply a piano that puts form over function. In other words, any piano of this size would not be a satisfying instrument to play for most pianists, but would look cool. The problem is those pesky laws of physics. Having said that, if you can find a dealer who carries it, go and play it. I think the best way to describe the sound is " a spinet on a horizontal axis", but that might be ok with you if you really want that baby grand shape. I would encourage you to at least check out a small digital baby grand. You might get more for your dollar. My 2 cents,

Yeah, that's what I suspect. I think they have them on display in Harrods, and as I live in London I might as well pop along and have a try. Otherwise it's back to my original plan for a CLP-695gp.

Please do report on how you think they sound or feel. Maybe there’s a larger market for “pianos as furniture†than I would have ever dreamed. Most of the “build your own†on their website is about color, shape, and look. Nothing about the pianos performance features except Renner hammers. I do and don’t wish for a “build your own†piano. I’d be changing something every single day. The change orders would triple the price. ðŸ˜

I did go to have a look today. It's in the furniture section of Harrods. Took some photos.. Harrodsand a quick recording of the sound.. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BY-3vfx5-59kj8bGU9f1pqupUCLzcLwB/view?usp=sharingThe bass is as expected. And the piano didn't seem to have much sparkle. And the piano had some sort of buzzing sound - the sales guy said it had been there for 6 months on the floor so who knows maybe had been dropped inside it or something.

Wow! I had seen these in funky designs, but nothing like that. It would certainly fit places other grands would not, but would you want something that looked like that?

I think the fact that Harrod’s put it in the furniture section pretty much says it all.

Harrods piano department closed in early 2013. Not sure what other department would have been more appropiate than the one chosen.

Very true. Since Harrods closed their piano department but are selling the Edelweiss pianos in the furniture section, it says to me that those pianos are being sold as modern furniture pieces that can play music. Just my opinion of course.
