I thought this was interesting! Anyone ever see this particular finish before??

Some refer to that style as French Provincial: Queen Anne legs, white with gold accents.

I suppose some may like it, but ....

I think black with gold would look a lot better! Interesting though, I've seen all white pianos but none with gold trim like this. Of course it's a 70s piano, the time of avacado and harvest gold stoves, lol.

That would be very pretty in the right kind of room with the right interior. It would definitely not work in my living room.

When I was piano shopping one of the dealers was lamenting the two white pianos he was trying to sell, they were in great shape, sounded lovely. He said he just couldn't sell them, and that no one should have a white piano unless they live by the beach. (I didn't ask him why, then, did he have them on his showroom floor...)

When I told my piano tech that I didn't want a white piano, he said something like "you're a player, players play black pianos. White pianos are for people who don't play." I myself don't want a white piano, so I wasn't going to argue!

I've seen the white Queen-Ann finish-combo before. Interesting and different from the norm for sure.

My Baldwin R is the 226 model with the Queen-Ann/French Provincial style legs. Since I bought it used and got a very good price on it, I didn't mind; however, I was told by a piano dealer that the Queen Ann/French Provincial styles (art case?) are difficult to sell and not high in demand. But I didn't buy it to sell... I bought it to play and enjoy, and I've been playing the heck out of it, and I love it! smile

It does, however, have a very nice satin cherry finish, but not too red at all, or at least not as red as some cherry finishes I've seen.

Besides, my late wife really liked the Baldwin R226 and it's a keeper for that reason alone...

Regards,

I believe BruceD nailed it. I love the Baldwin sound but I’d have to have that piano refinished to black and lose that gold trim.
Wasn’t there a thread a few months back where someone was finally going to buy a grand piano but his wife insisted it had to be white?
Most of our furniture is now very eclectic. Nothing matches anymore. But a White French Provincial, I don’t think so.

There have been two recent threads by forum members re white pianos: one was a custom made white piano that was just delivered and the second is where a wife insisted on white

I think this style is more Louis the Umpteenth than provincial. You'll see it in a lot of European palaces. I wouldn't want it in my home, but, TBH, I agree with ShiroKuro that it could look very nice in the right sort of space, like a salon at Versailles.

Oh yes. And my Yamaha dealer has a white D.H. Baldwin Baby Grand for sale in used inventory. I have nothing good to say about DH Baldwin pianos. And it’s in my least favorite color. I’d rather see Elton John red or Prince’s purple on my pianos. Although I do absolutely love a beautiful walnut finish. Sadly It costs as much more as the next size up and usually has to be ordered.

That style of French Provincial cabinet + white + gold trim is sometimes referred to as "Baroque" in the piano industry. Sometimes it is gold paint, other times it is brass ormolu or gold leaf.

Sam that is spelled "broke". Because that is what you would be if you had to take it on trade.

When I see pictures of Liberace’s piano I can only think of the “home of the French Sun King” and his palace at Versailles. Just dripping with gold trim.

When interpreted by Boesendorfer I think this style is quite beautiful:

I think he claimed that was "Chopin's piano" or something. Whatever it is, it sounds "tired," it put it nicely. 😁
