It’s been a long time since I made a post in this forum, but I just wanted to let you know that I finally received my N1X a few days ago, after 3 months of long waiting.

I have been playing a bit for the past few days, and I have to say I’m amazed by the touch and sound. This instrument is so beautiful! I hope that I can post a video of my playing in the near future wink

Thanks to everyone who recommended this piano and helped me in taking the decision to buy it!

Wonderful!

I also feel really blessed (happy) to play the N1X regularly. Just owning the N1X has inspired me to practice more. I've owned mine for over 7 months and I still get a good feeling every time I walk into the room where it is.

God Bless,
David

Congratulations on your N1X Haruki! The 3 month wait was worth it!

Yamaha might disagree smile https://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical_instruments/pianos/avantgrand/n1x/index.html

Kind of hard to imagine they would have them for sale on their website if they weren't being produced any more. The N1 and N2, no argument there. However, it's basically inconceivable that the N1X would have been cancelled already, and indeed, I just messaged my friends at the local piano store and they have a nice order for a few going in right now and they confirm the N1X is by no means unavailable and indicated they've been selling quite well.

Following srslysupersonic's advice, I made an adjustment to my soft-close mechanism. My soft-close fallboard worked Ok, but there was always a little bit of creaking noise on the left side when it was closing. Srslysupersonic said his was quiet after the adjustment.

It's a pretty easy adjustment and it actually did make my fallboard silent on the way down. After you pull the fallboard off, you have to remove an angled piece of wood (8 screws) in order to access all the screws on the soft-close mechanism. In the pic below you can see how the wood obscures two of the screws.

[Linked Image]

You'll have access to all four screws on the soft-close bracket after you remove the wood.

As you can see in the pic below, my left side bracket (left when it's on the piano) is actually not centered properly. It's at an angle.

[Linked Image]

I loosened up the screws and pushed it all the way out properly centering it.

[Linked Image]

No adjustment needed to be made on the right side. It was already pushed all the way out. I reassembled and sure enough, it's silent going down.

[Linked Image]

I think because the left side bracket was a bit off-centered, it made a slight creaking noise going down, but the adjustment fixed that.

God Bless,
David

If this is true, the N1X has had a very short run.

A little further explanation. In each market, the CostCo selection is chosen based on what will likely be the most popular models for that area. There is only a very small amount of floor space that CostCo allows for Yamaha, so not every model can be shown. The full line up is never represented or on the price list.

My 2 cents,

It has come to my attention that some parameter-changes cannot be saved on the N1X.

This brings me to the following question:
Is this limitation..........limited to the on-board parameter(s) or does it extend to the app as well?

Specifically, can I keep changes made ‘note-per-note’ on volume and intonation, or do I need to go in there (app) every time the N1X is turned on and go about editing volume and intonation note-per-note again and again...?

P.S.

Where art thou, CG? wink

I happen to know CG. He's been on a two week trip to a small town in Burkina Faso but should be back next week. AFAIK he's been awarded with this dream vacation due to his deep knowledge of Soviet cars and the resemblance of their user manual to that of the Nord Grand. Anyway, he just turned 40 today and decided to treat himself with a MODX 6 that makes it the third Yamaha in his family of N1X and reface CP. In his own words "Let's beat them bl**dy Kawais to the ground!!!".

Are you a fan of Lola, or is your name simply Lo Lafan? I know a ‘Lafan’ from Afghanistan, never met a ‘Lo’ though.

I digress, but I do hope CG is enjoying his paid (awarded) vacation. It goes to show that knowing about cars and their corresponding manuals can sometimes payoff. grin

I would post a nice Lola Astanova video in honour of our newest MODX 6 owner, but there are no videos of her playing either the N1X or the MODX smile

So instead, I'm posting a nice video of a Roland RD-700 from the official fan club

Maybe we should take LolaFan's comments with a bit of skepticism. He won a vacation to a small town in Africa "because of his deep knowledge of Soviet cars and the resemblance of their user manual to that of the Nord Grand?"

Guys, this is exactly the kind of talk that earns you an excursion wink Seems like it has always been part of the rules and many people have been attempting to win the precious prize on daily basis but nobody really succeeded until CG ultimately won the lottery with a clever detour!

Speaking of detours, I’m not as adventurous as CG is, so let me stay on the main road and say that I also own a N1X and just finished opening it up and fixing those d**n pins! It used to do a slight cracking sound right before being completely closed, as has David also mentioned, but is now dead silent and centered with no play of the fallboard. However the procedure turned out to be not so trivial and I wouldn’t have opened the piano at all should I have known what it takes. Disconnecting the top speakers cable before fully removing the top board was the trickiest part. Ultimately I did it by slightly raising the rear part of it with one hand so that I can barely put my other hand inside and disconnect it. One also need to detach a black protective cloth by unscrewing it and then two pairs of other screws to remove the vertical board facing the player and above the fallboard. That cloth is a clever thing to protect the internals of the piano from dust and had already gathered a lot in the inward arch that it makes including a few dead insects! I think cleaning the piano this way from time to time would be beneficial.

Take care! And stay on the road!
