In case anyone is interested, the sword fight is Season 2, episode 21, about 20 minutes in. (I think it may be a different piano than they usually show in Niles' house, but I don't know.)

I finally finished all of Cheers the other day...

Mrs. Retsacnal and I watched up to a couple seasons from the end before she was too sick to really enjoy it any more. About a year after she passed I resumed it, and thought I'd finish it. The last season's disk had issues though, so I didn't see those episodes either.

Anyway, my girls are home from school due to the pandemic. I realized I could watch Cheers using my daughter's Netflix account. It was sort of anticlimactic, IMO.

But it reminded me that Frasier's piano turned up in a couple more episodes, in particular one sacrilegious scene in an episode in a longer story arc in which Norm is secretly gifted as an interior decorator, and he redoes the home of Frasier and Lilith.

So, what's sacrilegious (IMO)? Norm stages his paint cans on the piano. Fortunately, it's covered by a tarp, but he's basically using the piano as his work bench! sick

We saw Olga Kern on February 29th playing a concert with her son Vladislav who is 20 this year. He is a student at Julliard and played the Liszt Piano Sonata. They didn't play any duets.

IRL, David Hyde Pierce is featured giving an endorsement on the Bluthner website. Apparently, he owns a 6 and a 2.

Wow, I saw the subject and thought, "not another one of those threads...
And then I realized that I'd started it! blush

Anyway, it was a fun thread. I still always try to see what brand a piano is when I see them on TV or in movies. thumb

Interesting trivia! (sorry, I got distracted watching Frasier clips...)

I must say, I am finding the idea of a good Bluthner even more intoxicating than before. Some new finds on YouTube played by Alexander Paley:

Huge variety of colors that one doesn't expect from a modern piano.

Another odd end, from Liszt.

Elsewhere, he makes Bechsteins sound pretty good. Also non-Steinway-ish.
