At long last I've finally made my video!! yippie

It ended up being a bit long, so I decided to break it up into individual short videos for each myth. I'll be posting them two at a time as they are released over the next couple of weeks.

If you want to receive the links via email, please sign up for my newsletter at http://lovemusiclearning.com/newsletter/, and as a bonus you'll also get my free pdf, "Scheduling Your Practice Time" which has helpful tips on how to structure practice time that I've accumulated from various sources and compiled into one document. (Some of you signed up for my newsletter a while ago, so you should have this already in your inbox).

Feedback is welcome smile

Here's Myth #1:

I really like it that they are short and complete. I am guessing others later in the series will get longer.

I am always reluctant to watch videos as a way to get information, as my experience has been that it is usually an inefficient way to get information across and often there is a lot of wasted time with little concrete information. It is much harder to scan ahead to look for the information that is relevant to me that I can do when reading.

So your vides at just over a minute are short enough, that I'm willing to test the waters with to see if it is worthwhile and I now know they are short and sweet, quickly get to the point so I'm looking forward to future myth busting.

Hey, that's my piano teacher! smile laugh

Very nicely done! thumb I think keeping them short is just perfect. As Kevin says, they are less scary that way. Personally, I put off seeing a video is 20 mins long, for instance shocked

Thanks Kevin and Tyrone for the feedback. I realized after I made the whole thing that I'd probably be reluctant to dedicate so much time in one sitting. I've made them all 2 minutes or less I believe. wink

What makes these videos particularly appealing from a pedagogical standpoint is that each focuses briefly and precisely on one concept. After viewing each video, the viewer has the time to absorb and consider the concept - if that is even needed - without having to mentally shuffle through and recall other concepts covered earlier in the video.

Nice work. I will look forward to viewing subsequent videos.

Thank you.

Regards,

Nice, good job.

Really liked all the content. In particular the content of 2nd video which may be touchy subject for some. The text of the myth though refers to beginner pieces in particular where i felt the main thrust of the video was the idea of skipping over beginner concepts. I think the objectional part for some may be the Mary had a Little Lamb type pieces, but not necessarily the concepts. Just the text caught me thinking that and video content was great. Thus for me, I would only suggest rewording the text slightly without reference to beginner pieces in this myth. Just a thought. Liked it all. smile

Somehow these videos seem like promotions and/or advertisements to me.

Just a thought.

A cynical thought to be sure.

I really like these. Thanks for sharing. In the first video, I would have enjoyed hearing some anecdotes - perhaps about your former students and how they've achieved a high level after starting piano as an adult (what pieces are they playing now, etc.). Otherwise, these are great and I look forward to the future ones!

Eek! Not my intention, but when you make videos, you want people to see them, and so you gotta put yourself out there. Sorry it came across that way, hopefully you found the content worthwhile regardless.

OK, good to know - I was a little worried about using specific examples, even if they're positive, but I guess who would know unless I name names smile

Good videos. I agree that a little more in terms of some examples would take these up to the next level. A couple more minutes wouldn't take the videos into 'too long' territory.
