Any suggestions for a violin-piano duet that would be fairly easy, at least in the piano part? One of my teacher's other adult piano students has played violin for many years. We are talking about preparing a violin-piano duet, just for fun.

She has experience with ensemble playing (on violin) but I do not, and she is also a more experienced musician overall: she played Chopin Prelude no. 6 and Brahms Intermezzo, Op. 76, no. 4 at our last piano gathering. I'm more at the Clementi Sonatina no. 1 level and I would certainly need to do a lot of solo preparation to be able to play with her.

She declined my suggestion of Arvo Part's Spiegel im Spiegel: the notes look simple on the page but it is very demanding of tone and vibrato control. So now we seek other suggestions. Thank you!

An easy one is Bach/Gounod's Ave Maria, which is basically Gounod's vocal line on top of Bach's Prelude No.1 from his WTC. The vocal part is often played on the violin instead:

There's also this one, Godard's Berceuse from Jocelyn, again a vocal piece which works well on the violin:

And how about the lovely slow movement of Dvořák's Violin Sonatina:

Thanks, Bennevis, for (more!) great repertoire suggestions. I will share these with my prospective duet partner.

You don't normally find violin & piano together as duet (both playing part of the melody). Usually the violin would be the solo with piano accompaniment.

I use the site: 8notes.com. You can look up the violin section. You find folk tunes like "Danny Boy", "Greensleeves" and Camille Saint-Saëns "The Swan" transcribed for violin.

Barber adagio op 11 - it was originally written for strings but I have played this transcription with a violinist as a piano/violin duet.

Actually, the vast majority of violin & piano music are duets: sonatas like this well-known one:

The piano part is often harder than the violin part (as here).

Many great suggestions! Thank you FrankCox, thepianoplayer416, dogperson, and bennevis. I think the Kreutzer is going to have to wait, though.....!
