Dear piano friends,

one can buy a CS11 everwhere but happened with the CS8, I can hardly find a shop online or in real life selling one.
But it still appears on Kawai´s website!
Any ideas?

Thank you

Al

My guess is that both the CS8 and CS11 are being phased out with no CS replacement in the near future.

The CS8 was the CA67 in polished ebony (PE), for a higher price. If you want a CA78 in PE you can put that additional money into getting the CA98PE, which not only gives you PE but also the other goodies of the 98 vs. the 78.

The CS11 was the CA97 with an upgraded cabinet (in PE, which was not available for the CA97 itself). The CA98 already has a PE option with the standard cabinet. If you want the upgraded cabinet, there is now the NV5, which comes with the additional bonus of the acoustic upright action.

If they are indeed being phased out, it may simply be that there are more CS11 left to sell than CS8.

Many German shops seem to say that it's no longer available. Session Music is still advertising it but doesn't accept online orders:

https://www.session.de/KAWAI-CS-8.html

You could ask them if they still have some stock. Or maybe a demo unit. It may still later appear as "B Ware" on some shops (Session, Kirstein, Music Store, Thomann...) if anyone returns a one.

On the other hand my local music store still has it listed and no mention of discontinuation. But that doesn't help you. wink

This is curious ... because these two are the newest in the CS-series.

I was looking at this model also, but the website I looked at says that the CS8 is discontinued. So probably if there are still some in stock at a store, you can buy it, but I doubt it can be ordered anymore. I thought the CS8 was replaced by the CS 11.

I think that is the answer!
But I don´t like the touchscreen, the new (?) sounds. Having a CA98 for my work at school I must say, it is not the same graet sond as the CS10 (which I owned) or the CS8..
Sounds muffled and dead...as astrange as this sounds, maybe a matter of taste..or ears...

The CS8 has been discontinued.
Some stores may still have inventory of this product, however Kawai Japan is no longer producing this instrument.

The CA98 (and other instruments that use the same technology) features two sound engines:
- SK-EX Rendering: This is Kawai's latest piano sound engine, with multi-channel sampling and 88-key resonance modelling. This sound engine is active in "Pianist mode".
- Harmonic Imaging XL: This is Kawai's previous generation piano sound engine, and the same as that found in the CS11/CS8. This sound engine is active in "Sound mode".

Personally, I greatly prefer the latest sound engine, how if you prefer the former 'CS11/CS8) sound engine, it is still available by using "Sound mode".

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
James
