@rmns2bseen I was at piano store a few years ago to check out the Casio GP300 and even the dealer was trying to sway me to try a different brand. I already did try the other brand and I dropped in to try the Casio. I thought to myself why are you selling Casio brand?

All these years playing and I still consider myself a novice.

I was there before and have purchased from this dealer. I told them I was in to check out the newer Casio GP line. I just thought it was odd, right away he wanted to show the other brands instead of just show me what I asked for. I said I see the Casio and I brought my headphones and off I went.

I don't know...it could be other factors as well. Sometimes they have inventory that they have to get rid of, I guess. Maybe they figure that anyone who's asking specifically for Casio is going to be an untutored rube who'll buy just about anything to be one of the cool kids. grin All I know is I don't need, say, an N1X. Not that it isn't great and all that. I just don't need it or want it. My budget Casio is just fine.

It was about *purchasing* one of two Casio models.

It wasn't about analyzing Casio related discussions on Pianoworld.

But I wasn't passive aggressively complaining about it here. (I try to be above that.) It was just a suitable example of derailing to something else than Casio bashing. And there are countless other examples of course to choose from. Like Finnish names.

They are not all short. There some with at least three syllables, but two syllables and 4...6 letters are probably most common. So, yeah. Maybe they are mostly on the short side and not something like "Chandrasekhar" (as in India) or "Alessandra".

There was one more short named F1 driver a long time called "Keke". But he was actually "Keijo" (Rosberg) so it was just a nick name.

And of course Estonian is also part of the Fenno-Ugrian languages and actually closer to Finnish than Hungarian.

Speaking of Estonia, it's also a brand of apparently quite decent grand pianos...oops...I'm digressing...

Other than this I think this is definitely one of the more friendly places on the internet. There's a genuine sense of belonging here, anyone else feel that way? I feel like this is a great place and feel right at home whenever I come here. On the other hand, I don't read too many threads about hardware so I might have missed out on some bad stuff. I certainly don't know what the OP is talking about so it looks like I've been missing quite a lot.

Thanks, but no need to apologise to me; I honestly can't remember any spicy comments towards me but if there were any, I daresay I gave as good as I got. ;-)

I've never had any problem in this forum on PW. Sure, not everyone agrees and sometimes people have been quite robust in disagreeing with me, but it rarely descends into personal attack and that's to everyone's credit. I'm not here as much as I'd like, but I have great respect for the regulars of the forum; there is a lot of expertise here and while we're a slightly eccentric bunch, I think of all of you as my PW friends. There's honestly nobody here who I would wish was absent, and there aren't many places on the internet that you can say that. Kudos to you all. smile

I really want to write them and let them know how people feel. I would like to start a thread asking people here to share their thoughts and I will use these as examples in my email to Casio.

Perhaps they only expect to live short lives . . .

It is because all their other words are endlessly long. For instance, lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas, epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydellänsäkäänköhän, Äteritsiputeritsipuolilautatsijänkä. shocked crazy whistle

The translation of "lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas, epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydellänsäkäänköhän, Äteritsiputeritsipuolilautatsijänkä" ...

... is "hello". smile

I've gotten to know some Fins (is that the right for someone from Finland)? here in Scania, and there are quite many of them living in Sweden, often called Finlandsvenskar.

When I start talking Swedish to Swedes, they usually recognize the accent immediately, and say I'm from Iceland. A few times, they've thought I'm from Finland.

Turns out that even though the languages, Finnish and Icelandic, are miles apart, our accents are very similar, at least when talking Swedish.

Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish, can be understood interchangeably, but Icelandic, though very related to these other three Nordic languages, is almost completely unintelligible to Danes, Norwegians, and Swedes.

Danish may be one of the hardest languages to learn for English speakers, while ironically, Swedish may be the 2nd easiest language to learn for English speakers.

That’s an interesting article. Probably explains why Swedes and Norwegians seem to write/speak English so well, at least to me smile A native speaker should confirm that though.

Bulgarian falls into the same category as Russian for English speakers though.
